All you people are wrong - this is great!
operating system:Windows XPI bought one of these for a customer for a single PC that ran some reports or something. Anyway when they had a power out it lost a weeks work everytime. Rubbish software I know!
Anyway:
1) It DOES have a USB connection
2) It DOESN'T come with software
3) It DOESN'T show as a UPS
This device shows as a BATTERY on your PC in the same way a laptop would. It doesn't NEED shutdown software cos you just configure the power settings on the PC, just like a laptop.
Not only does it work VERY well in this fashion, it also has useful features like:
1) Some sockets are always on with UPS bypassed, so no need for a separate extension lead for non UPS devices.
2) Some sockets are also UPS protected.
3) Some sockets only come on when the main PC is on, so it also acts as a power saving socket.
It works great, brilliant device, loads of features, simple to use (for most), and an amazing solution for the price.
UPS APC ES 400VA
Took up free delivery option when I ordered on Tuesday night. Promised delivery next Wednesday 18/2, but actually delivered on Thursday 12/2 -- well done ebuyer! Only issue is that this model does NOT include shut-down software, nor the necessary serial or USB connection, despite what the product overview says. Not a major problem for me; the price is right and APC is the industry standard for UPSs.

operating system:Not ApplicableI bought this to make sure that TV programmes were still recorded even if there was a power cut. We'd been away for a long weekend, and when we got home, "she who must be obeyed" found that Neighbours hadn't been recorded because of a power cut. We live in the sticks, and brief power cuts are fairly common, and our Humax PVR doesn't start-up fully after a power cut (its only bad feature). This of course was all my fault!
Anyway, the APC unit was delivered on time, well packaged, easy instructions, and on my brief tests, it works as intended.
Not been using it for long enough to give 5 stars, but recommended.

operating system:Windows 7Came about 3 days early - thanks very much.
I bought it because we seem to have a few power cuts round our way, and the last one very nearly killed my readynas duo. So I wanted something that would give me time to switch it off manually and make sure the disks don't corrupt. This should keep it running for hours (and keep a light on!) so job done for £50. It's completely silent, but weighs a lot.
Loses one star because the readynas doesn't recognise it as a UPS so won't shut itself down automatically. In fairness a fault of Netgear rather than APC.
