Product Description
With some routers, all wired and wireless traffic, including VoIP, Video Streaming, Online Gaming, and Web browsing are mixed together into a single data stream. By handling data this way, applications like video streaming could pause or delay. With D-Link's Intelligent QoS Technology, wired and wireless traffic is analyzed and separated into multiple data streams. These streams are then categorized by sensitivity to delay, so applications like VoIP, Video Streaming, and Online Gaming are given priority over Web browsing. This enables multiple applications to stream smoothly to your TV or PC.
The Xtreme N Gigabit Router supports the latest wireless security features to help prevent unauthorized access, be it from over a wireless network or from the Internet. Support for WEP, WPA, and WPA2 standards ensure that you will be able to use the best possible encryption regardless of your client devices. In addition, this Xtreme N router utilizes Dual Active Firewalls (SPI and NAT) to prevent potential attacks from across the Internet.
Delivering best-in-class performance, network security, and coverage, the Xtreme N Gigabit Router (DIR-655) is the ideal centerpiece for your wireless network in the home or office.
Please note: networking components such as switches, routers and wireless devices require that speeds & standards be consistent throughout the network to gain optimum performance. To avoid compatibility clashes or for advice, please contact us on solutions@ebuyer.com.

Wow!
operating system:Windows VistaChanged from a Belkin 54g print server router which did the business for a few years, running with 20mb Virgin Media Cable Broadband this router is unsurpassed in performance and quality.
The first thing you notice when you take it out the box is the build quailty. Not something that has bothered me in the past but this router looks stunning. Glossy white finish with deep blue LED status lights on the front (very bright in a dark room) and 3 matching white detachable antennae. The surround of the router is encased in black rubber which sound strange but provides a small amount of shock resistance, handy for when you stand it upright.
One complaint I have is the 3 antennae can appear to be quite loose when you stand the router upright but not really something worth shouting about.
The administration pages and the setup are flawless, very impressive piece of kit with so many options for QoS, port forwarding, MAC address filtering and other advanced extras like WPA2 for encryption if you have a supported wireless adapter. Parental controls are also quite detailed on the admin pages, you can set optiosn like the basic program access control to timed access to specific MAC or IP addresses.
4 Gigabit ports as standard are a big plus point and provide phenominal throughput over wired connections, one of the mains reasons i changed the router.
Wireless performance is excellent, combined with 1 desktop Belkin Wireless N adapter (pulls 120mb wirelessly) and a notebook pre N adapter (pulls 98mb wirelessly) it i srock solid. The admin pages allow you to see who is connected to your network and even their signal levels which is quite impressive.
There is a USB port on the back which currently can only b used for USB flash drives, supposedly there is a way to connect printers but I havent found any info yet and DLink dont provide any tech support on this (hopefully with a future firmware update this may be available).
**Note - This router comes with Version 1.01 firmware and can be updated straight away to 1.03 from the DLink UK website, dont setup anything till you flash the router**
Over all this is getting 5 stars due to its build quality, performance, expandability, DLink support and overall looks.
A must Buy !!
Great Router
operating system:Not ApplicableOut of all the routers ive had the pleasure of working with this is by far the best.

N-Support which does broadcast greater distances. The advanced features under the management area are good as well.
Easy to setup, looks good, strong signals, I cant see me installing anything else for a good while.
Fantastic gigabit cable router
operating system:Windows VistaThis replaced my aging Linksys wrt45g wireless router.
Having upped my Virgin speed to 20Mb the linksys simply was not performing that well (max throughput was around 15-16Mbps).
Now that I've installed the d-link, I max out at 20Mbps and the wireless range has increased to boot; a laptop to the back of the house used to get a 20-25Mbps connection whereas now it's a full 54Mbps.
Plus it gives my gigabit throughput between my pc and server which is great.
It looks great with the white case and blue lights too. The Admin webpage is nice and detailed.
I had no need to update the firmware either.
A very fast and powerful router - definately will impress
operating system:Windows XPI purchased the DIR-655 having read a number of very positive reviews in various PC magazines and have been very impressed. I have connected the router to my laptop and mainly use it for online gaming on my PS3. It is so simple to install - my 10 year old brother would have no problem getting it set up. I have never experienced any lag or drop in connection which, from a gaming point of view, is very important. It even looks pretty cool with its white casing and blue LEDs! If you're looking for a powerful router that delivers fast wireless speeds, then look no further - I thoroughly recommend the DIR-655.
