Great value
operating system:Not ApplicableIf all you're after is something for reading CD's and DVD's then this is spot-on and as cheap as it gets. Noise-wise, it's no worse than your average optical drive. Just remember that it's only a reader, not a writer!

No frills for those on a budget
operating system:Windows VistaDoes exactly what it says - reads CDs and DVDs without a problem. A tad loud on spin-up but for 8 quid you can't go wrong.
price/build quality are brilliant
operating system:Windows 7Excellent DVD-drive, extremely easy to install and works straight out the box. For the price, it's brilliant.
Not brilliant reading DVDRs / DVDRWs
operating system:Windows 7This drive is extremely basic, and does struggle to read from some writable DVDs (specifically LiteOn discs and discs burnt from a Macbook Pro).
During a Windows 7 installation the drive was unable to keep reading and expanding the files, a simple fix was to eject the DVD and then put it back (strangely Windows continues to install). In the end I used my USB LiteOn drive to read the Windows install DVD (made with a LiteOn DVD-R from the MSDN ISO) and this worked without any hassles.
If your planning on reading lots of writable DVDs with this drive, I would recommend looking at something else and spending slightly more money (or at least have a drive for backup just incase).
