Product Description
Asus Xonar D2X is the world's first PCI-E interface high end audio card featuring SNR up to 118dB. Asus Xonar D2X
provides intuitive DS3D GX to solve Vista gaming audio issues, and Acoustic Echo Cancellation (AEC) for best voice
communication quality, the Asus Xonar D2X will undoubtedly provide the best gaming experience ever.
ASUS Xonar D2X -Solution to Windows Vista Gaming Audio Problems
With the introduction of Windows Vista, the whole audio architecture landscaped has been changed. This has resulted in teething problems for gamers - with the possibility of losing all surround sound or hardware accelerated Direct3D and EAX while gaming in the Windows Vista environment. To circumvent this problem, the ASUS Xonar family of audio cards utilizes an ASUS exclusive technology - the new DS3D GX extension in the Asus Xonar D2X driver; to provide full support for surround sound and hardware accelerated features by translating DirectX to the DS3D GX. While other solutions like OpenAL requires special installation and game support, DS3D GX doesn't. Gamers can enjoy DirectX gaming with hardware enhanced surround sound and EAX effects automatically and immediately after installation.
Cleanest Voice in Online or LAN Game Chatting
The Asus Xonar D2X also includes the innovative "Acoustics Echo Cancellation" (AEC) technology to facilitate the best online voice communication quality. AEC can eliminate up-to-40dB speaker echo return and suppress noises that would otherwise enter the users' microphone – making the Xonar D2X the best audio card choice for online chatting in VOIP applications (Skype, MSN, Google, QQ, etc.) or online gaming.
Unparalleled Sound Clarity
The ASUS Xonar D2X also features a signal- to-noise ratio (SNR) of 118 dB for both audio in and out - reaching the maximum limit of audio quality on most PC platforms. Unlike generic audio cards in the market that provide the highest SNR to only the front stereo outputs, the Asus Xonar D2X is able to deliver 118 dB quality audio for all 7.1 channels.
Dolby and DTS for Complete Digital Home Experience
Besides delivering impressive audio quality, the Asus Xonar D2X is also packed with multiple sound technologies from Dolby and DTS to deliver outstanding entertainment experiences. These include
Dolby Digital Live: Converts PC or game audio content into Dolby Digital in real-time
Dolby Headphone: Creates a surround sound listening experience when using any set of headphones
Dolby Virtual Speaker: Delivers a vibrant surround sound listening experience from stereo speakers
Dolby Pro Logic® IIx: C reates up to 7.1-channel surround sounds from stereo or 5.1 sources
DTS Connect: Includes DTS Interactive and DTS NEO:PC
DTS Interactive for real time AC-3 encoding and
DTS NEO: PC stereo to multi-channel expander

operating system:Windows 7I have been a creative card user for years, with my previous 2 cards being their highest end offerings, the Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro and the X-Fi Elite. I had always been totally happy with these cards until the advent of Vista, when Creative's drivers took a massive blow. They were pulled back substantially from the poor sorry state they started Vista in, but they never recovered fully.
Windows 7 (64-bit) states the X-Fi is not compatible. The drivers did not remember settings and the tonality was randomly shot to hell every few days with really thin music playback. Driver resets usually solved this, but it was almost like the op-amps or DACs in the card were blown. Shame really, as the X-Fi was fantastic in XP!
On to the D2X now. What a card! It took a fair bit of tweaking to get the sound how I like it (probably due to being so accustomed to Creative's software), but it is definitely worth the effort! I don't use any of ASUS preset modes, there is no need once you have the custom one set up to your liking.
Music sounds unbelievable in MOST cases - the one flaw I will pick out in this card is that it really shows when something has been badly recorded, you hear every minor detail and differences between tracks. An example would be Metallica's album Death Magnetic - notorious for being highly compressed and harsh to the ear. Well, you ain't heard the brink of that harshness until it comes on in a random playlist after another track using this card! Other music (all genres) will sound phenomenal though, you truly get the "ultra high definition sound quality" that ASUS claim on the box, thumping deep bass, warm round mids and clear crisp treble. Live recordings (if decent quality) almost sound like being back at the gig!
Also, if you are a gamer, ASUS now FULLY implement all the way up to EAX5 in software using something called DS3D GX. Playing COD:MW2 is so much more immersive than with the X-Fi, the positional calculations are spot on, you can hear exactly where everyone is and where those bullets are coming from, not to mention the realistic explosions and gunfire.
Films are a treat as well, with all the Dolby accreditations natively supported, hooked up to my PS3 via SPDIF (all cables and connectors/adaptors are included if you don't already have them, not to mention a very generous software bundle!) and games and films from it sound fantastic also.
If like me you toyed with the idea for a year or so of buying one of these to replace an X-Fi, or are considering buying an X-Fi, then stop contemplating it now, and buy this card, I promise you won't be disappointed! Just make sure you have a decent set of speakers and rip your music at 192kbps or higher to do the card justice!
Amazing
operating system:Windows VistaI have an Abit IP35 pro which had one of the better realtek chips for the onboard audio.
This Asus D2X just blows it away, do not hesitate, get one now, all the sounds are just so clear now!
Plus its 100% stable on my Vista 32bit ultimate.
Better than X-Fi for Vista and Linux
operating system:Windows VistaI used to have an X-Fi. Creative don't half make great hardware...and rubbish software. I loved the X-Fi for what it could do for low quality MP3s. But I recently replaced my Windows XP installation for a Vista and Ubuntu dual boot. The X-Fi drivers for Vista were awful, I had alsorts of dropouts and problems. And the drivers for Ubuntu didn't work, unless you have a degree in computer science you can forget about using an X-Fi on Linux.
So I did a bit of checking and came across this little beauty. After rave reviews I stumped up the cash and I'm so glad I did. Music (which is now mostly flac files on my machine) sounds so much better than on the X-Fi. And no more dropouts, pops or any problems of any description! And when I booted Linux it worked straight away, it didn't even have to install drivers. The boot up jingle sounded the first time I booted Ubuntu after intalling this card.
Yes, it's a lot of money for a soundcard, but if you care about quality, and especially if you have Vista, it's the card of choice. The rest of you can stick to onboard sound and 10 quid speakers.
Big thumbs up from me.
