Fantastic Wireless
operating system:Windows VistaFirst off, let me start by saying that I agree with the other review for this mouse. The side button is very hard to reach without contorting your hand.
I dont use this mouse for a laptop but I can see why it would be usefull for anyone who is constantly on the move.
When folded up it is very small and manageable, you probably wouldn't feel uncomfortable wth it in your pocket. It comes with a handy little bag to keep it in when not in use, and as for the USB connector? When not in use there is a handy little resting place for it in the folded section of the mouse.
But I'm not interested in any of that. I use this mouse on my computer in my living room hooked up to my TV. I've had a PC under my TV for a long time now and tried several different wireless mice. Most faired well, but there was always a problem with range and my other bug bear.... Battery life. The Microsoft ARC takes away both of these issues. I would estimate that I am sat roughly 5-6 meters away from my PC and the ARC mouse is working perfectly, and its normal working surface is a chair arm, no mouse mat.
Battery life is fantastic with the ARC. The feature where the mouse folds in half for transport also switches it off completely. It seems such a rare thing theese days to have an electrical item that actually switches off rather than going onto standby. With just a quick flick of the wrist the ARC snaps shut and is switched off. Other mice I had tried preiviously would sit on the side and drain the battery in a few days. Not the ARC. I've had this mouse for several months and I'm still on the original batteries.
I would agree that it is not the best mouse for any real technical work, but it is a fantastic mouse for a media PC.
I also use the gorgeous loking ARC keyboard in the living room too.
Good portable mouse; but serious usability issues

For its intended purpose as a travel-friendly input device, the Arc Mouse does exactly what it's supposed to.
In its uncollapsed state, wherein you actually use the mouse, the Arc Mouse is not quite as clever. It works well-enough as a basic two-button scroll mouse, but the extra left-side button complicates things.
If you hold a mouse in a standard grip, with your palm resting on the tail-edge, it becomes impossible for your thumb to reach the Arc Mouse's side button without contorting your hand. Situating your palm on the top of mouse (aka claw grip) solves the problem, but at the expense of precise cursor control.
I love side buttons, so it was hopeless for web cruising and graphic editing / file management usage.
