Recommended drive
operating system:Windows XPThis drive was bought to replace a failed 40GB unit in a customer's Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo L 6820.
Initially there was some doubt that this laptop could address more than 137GB in a single drive but the 160GB Samsung unit was fitted and away it went, with a dual boot of XP Home and Ubuntu on a backup partition.
The only lingering disquiet was a tendency for the drive not to be found by the BIOS after a reboot from Live CD; looking around on the newsgroups several other folk had reported this without there ever having been a satisfactory explanation.
Quickly glancing at the small instruction booklet which came with the drive (this is an OEM unit) I noticed that it incorporated 'hybrid technology' and that its use with an operating system other than MS Windows "might require a supplemental licence from Microsoft". WTF? Could this have been the source of the mysterious 'No boot device found, press CTRL+ALT+DEL to continue', experienced with the Ubuntu Live CD used to set up?
Nice Drive
operating system:OtherJust replaced a Hitachi 40gb drive in my old Dell C640 for this drive, primarily to test out an evaluation copy of Windows 7. Drive installed without any problems with the OS installation just as painless. Have since run HD Tune to get some figures on the drive performance...

Great Drive
operating system:Windows 7This was bought to replace my a failed 60GB Toshiba (HDD2194/MK6026GAX) drive in my Sister's DELL Inspiron 510m. This Samsung drive's read/write performance is very impressive. The model as shipped had its AAM (acoustic management) set to silent (easily changed using CrystalDiskInfo - a free SMART utility, available for download) making the drive inaudible when in use. CrystalDiskInfo reports temperatures in the low 30c range - which is also very impressive.
XP pro was a breeze to install and booting is very, very quick. This drive is so fast that it feels only marginally slower than an SSD! I will be buying another one for my own Notebook, as an upgrade, it gives a better performance boost than a memory upgrade in an ageing notebook.
eBuyer's service was very professional and efficient - so top marks there too.

operating system:Windows XPTook the next day delivery option, which got to me pre 12. Install was a breeze, ran XP setup and detected drive at correct size, formatted and installed XP. Seemless install. Drive v fast and quiet.
