Excellent product
operating system:Windows 7I bought this to replace me CX430 V2 because of the fan noise and low current on the 12A rail.
The fan in this power supply is whisper quiet, audible when the room is silent but a simple, continuous, quiet hum rather than an irritating varying noise. For anyone seeking a quiet unit, I recommend the TruePower line of PSUs for sure.
The semi-modular cabling is good, but the pre-attached cables could have been reduced a little. This isn't really an issue in my CM 690 II, all of the excess fits nicely behind the motherboard tray and doesn't limit airflow at all.
Overall, this is an excellent power supply and well worth buying, I can't find any real faults besides being picky with the cabling.
Great PSU
operating system:Windows XPI love this PSU. I've bought two of these now, this 550w and the 650w. The Truepower New series is fantastic.
On the good side, the build quality is really nice but the best part is the cables. They're round which makes them very easy to navigate around the case (unlike some PSUs which use awkward ribbon cables). The cables are also a decent length and sleeved nicely. On my Coolermaster CM690 II Advanced case, the cables fit perfectly.
The only downside I can think of is that the PSU could be a little more modular. I put this into a system with onboard graphics and there were a couple of hard-wired cables which were of no use. I think that modular should mean that only the minimum cables should be hardwired - that means ATX and EATX only (possibly a SATA cable too).
This is a minor quibble though as the cables were easy to hide and this is still one awesome power supply. I've built two computers now with these in, if I was building another 50 they would all have these in. Giving this 5 stars even with the modular issue, since it's really not important.
Good Quality PSU
operating system:Not ApplicableGot his Yesterday and thus far i am very impressed.
Positives:
Build quality of this is excellent, the metal casing unlike some does not feel flimsy.
In use it is practically silent, it is one of the quietest ATX PSUs with a fan in it ive ever had.
All internal cables are nice and long in length, even in an old style full tower this would have enough length to the cables.
Voltages on the 3V, 5V and 12V lines are all very stable.
Comes with a bag of screws, a couple of cable like ties and a mains power cable (kettle cable) which are nice little extras which you don't get with some.
All the internal cables have a braided outer sleeve, including the modular cables. Which makes routing things easier.
Negative: (more like minor niggle)
A little like a couple of other reviews so far the internal cabling is a bit of a downside IMO.
Its modular but in most rigs you wont have to use the extra modular cables (Unless you want to). The cabling which is hard wired consists of a 1x 20+4pin motherboard connector, 1x 8pin EPS, 1x 4pin atx 12V, 1x 6+2pin PCI-E, 3x sata, 3x molex and 1 floppy drive connector. This in one sense is a good thing but in another is a bit silly (example you will only use either the 8pin EPS connector or the 4pin ATX 12V connector, the other you will have to cable tie up somewhere they should had made that modular really).
About the only time you will need to use the extra modular cabling is if you have an SLI setup or if you have more than 3 sata devices, otherwise you don't really need it, as i said good in one sense but in another kinda negates the purpose of it being modular in the first place.
In terms of how many connectors there are available in TOTAL ebuyer have that wrong in the description and are understating how good this is, the TOTAL amount of connectors available both fixed and modular combined are shown here... http://www.antec.com/Believe_it/connectors.php?ProdID=07658 It will do SLI for many Graphics cards easily.
That is the only negative i can find and to be honest, its more a minor niggle than anything.
My rig that it is powering consists of a Intel quad core Q8200 (overclocked), 2 HDDs, 1 DVD Writer, 1 PCI TV Tuner card, 4gig of ram (2 sticks), 1 140mm case fan and a power hungry Nvidia 9800GT graphics card. Its handling it without breaking a sweat, all voltages stable and solid as a rock.
It scores a 5/5 from me. Definitely recommended. Quality PSU, at a good price which should power your machine for a few years. I can not really mark it down over the modular cabling niggle as the performance and build quality is so good.
