    ZyXEL P-660HN-F1Z Router

Chose one of these routers without seeing any independent reviews and having no previous personal experience of the brand (..brave, aren't I ?!!) ...A decision entirely based on the potential value for money.

As ever, eBuyer delivery superb ..much quicker than expected, so hats-off for that bonus.

The router itself was very straightforward to install (..it was a replacement for an elderly device which was starting to become unreliable) - as I already had an existing home network.

It was a treat to be able to set-up and configure totally wirelessly from the start (having had to physically connect my previous device via network cable initially, and then configure wireless settings afterwards).

The router is slightly (but only slightly) larger than the model it replaced, but it does provide slightly better speeds on '801.11g' connection. Plus, it potentially will work with an '801.11n' connection so the scope for future upgrading is indeed there!!

I have had no problem connecting both XP and Vista machines - my previous router simply refused to work with Vista ...that'll give you an idea how old it was!!

Although it's only early days so far, I'm very impressed and pleased with this ZyXEL router, and very happy with the service and value for money that eBuyer constantly manage to provide!!

Very happy with the purchase and will have no hesitation in choosing ZyXEL products in future. :-)

Bought this for £35 when it was discounted. Needed ADSL2 for my upgraded "upto 20MB" connection. Easy to set up. It has been stable, continuously running for the past two weeks.

It did not come with ADSL filters or ethernet cable - may be a consideration when completing your order.

    Finally reliable wireless!
    review by:Anonymous rating:

I've never written a review before but feel compelled to after buying this :-)

I'm a Mac user and own a MacBook Pro with recently upgraded Snow Leopard. I've also got an iTouch that I've got configured to connect to home wireless too. My previous wireless network was using 802.11g with a Netgear Rangemax DG834PN situated in the middle of the house. My wireless connection has typically always been unstable to say the least. My macbook would frequently give me a 'connection timeout' error and even after finally connecting after what seems like a million retries, the internet connection was always extremely slow and unusable so I'd have to resort to ethernet cable. I got the same inconsistency with the iTouch an unfortunately you can't connect a cable to that!!

Admittedly, having a baby monitor on hasn't helped - these interfere big time with wireless - but even without it the wireless network was simply rubbish. Also tried testing with multiple channels on the netgear but didn't help so I decided to take a risk and buy this router, an 802.11N promising to reach all those deadspots!!

Well what can I say :-) I'm now an extremely happy and less stressful man. Setting it up was easy - just plug in the cables and let the wizard do the rest. Using the wizard gets you as far as setting up the local wireless network and also configuring your ADSL connection. You can also choose an Advanced mode which gives you access to everything else, firewall-natting-logs-statistics etc.

The utility itself is very pleasing to the eye and easy to use with a option tree to the left giving access to Network, Security, Advanced and Maintenance and then further options are available through the TABs presented on the right. There's also a Status button that gives a summary of the settings.

In the box - the router, two aerials that you screw on the side of the router, yellow ethernet cable, telephone cable and a power supply - which I'm pleased to say is the small lightweight type and not like the brick that comes with the netgear ;-) and quick-start-guide+cd.

At back of the router are 4 ethernet ports, a press on/off power switch next to the power inlet, telephone connector and a small router reset button if you forget the admin password.

On top of the router there are the usual LEDs for ethernet, wireless, internet etc as well as a small push button for the disable wireless feature - this is the new power saving mode! I'm sure it'll have a use for some people but for me I'll always be using the wireless.

Unfortunately you can't stand this router up on it's side as an aerial will get in the way so the only way is to lay it flat or wall mount it, which is what I've done.

Finally, eBuyer, great value at £35 plus free delivery in just 2 day - Superb!
