works great for time machine!
operating system:Mac OSXI bought this in desperation as my iMac (2tb internal) and time machine drive (another external 2tb USB2 WD My Book) were reaching the limit of backup capacity.
I was concerned about noise - given that it's 2 drives bolted together, but I needn't have been. It runs quietly in the background, and even with heavy backups it's barely noticable.
Aesthetically it's a bit on the chunky side, but smaller than a comparable NAS and nicer to look at with a pleasant 'sideways Cylon' effect on the white front lighting.
Also pretty nippy as it's firewire 800 (or USB2), and uses up a port thats rarely connected on my mac - but also provides a firewire pass through on the back.
Pity it's not thunderbolt - but thats a few years down the line I think!
