Partition Type on Xenta Media Player
operating system:Windows XPFirst of all, bought one of these, excellent service from ebuyer.
I have two external hard drives 40 & 80GB and a 1GB memory stick.
Got it to play movies from the memory stick no problem, but neither hard drive would show any files.
I tranferred all the files from the 80GB drive to another temporary one, and partitioned it into 30-30-20 GB partitons, using logical partitions and fat 32 (I did this thinking the player might not recognise partitions larger than 32GB) then I put all my files back on again, but it still wouldn't read it.
Luckily, the 40GB drive was empty so I could experiment a bit.
I partitioned it again, but only one partition of 32GB, using both NTFS and FAT32 - still no good.
Then I tried 32GB using a Primary Partition, finaly it works!
The last step was to partition the whole drive, 40GB, primary partition FAT32 and its OK. (I used FAT32 because you can move & delete files in the player).
The next thing for me will be to redo the 80GB one, will report back with any problems.
Excellent with some reservations regarding compatibility.
operating system:Windows 7The device itself is excellent. It comes with a neat UK power supply and a remote with real buttons. The buttons are quite small but react well and are colour coded. (The Play and Stop buttons being the only ones in a colour - Green on the version I got).
Navigation works well. While the gadget will scan your card/usb for media it only does so in the root folder. Not a problem as the "FILE" option lets you navigate though the whole structure including multiple folders.
Note that it only displays the 1st 9/10 characters of each filename... which can make a problem if you're trying to find a particular one depending on how you've named them.
MP3 - fine with music and some audio books. No such thing as playlists.
JPG - no option on display size/format i.e displayed my 4:3 picture in the middle of my 16:9 TV. No problems with my 12MegaPixel Photos.
Video - What it does do it does well. HDMI worked fine on my 40" LCD. Sound quality remarkably good for such a little box.
The AV cable produced acceptable results on a portable TV via it's scart (converter required).
Worked fine with an unencrypted DVD I just dragged the appropriate VOB file onto a USB and it played 1st time.
The area which will cause problems is it's interpretation of Mpeg4.
More precisely it does seem to mean just Divx/Xvid. I had problems with other flavours of Mpeg4 using a different codec. So it will depend which converter has been used to generate them.
No skip option/Resume. Only fast forward upto 16x which means you can't just skip to the 2nd half of a film if you stopped halfway through.
It will even display TXT files ...
p.s I got mine on Ebay from Ebuyer Express. (which was slightly cheaper)
Excellent all rounder :)
operating system:Windows 7I bought this device to accompany my 32" Foehn & Hirsch TV.
It far exceded my expectations. The on screen menu system is excellent. The quality of picture using the supplied AV cable is also excellent. I don't have a single complaint to make about it.
The remote control is fully featured and responds very well from all angles. If you have ever bought a cheap MP3 player from Hong Kong, you'll know that the case is coated in a 'grippy' type texture that makes it feel very expensive. A real bargain, highly reccomended.
Excellent for the price
operating system:Windows 7I bought this along with a 4 Gb dongle and a hdmi cable to play downloaded and ripped content. Now all I have to do is drag and drop films and music onto the dongle and enjoy. It saves time and money burning everything to DVDs.
Picture and sound quality is excellent, quite a surprise for such a tiny gadget.
