ZyXEL GS105B 5 port Gigabit Desktop Switch Product Description
Unlike other switches that set unnecessarily high power output level to the longest cable length, the GS-105B is able to detect the actual length of cables on each port and adjust its power output accordingly. ZyXEL GS-105B not only comes with reliable performance, but also the commitment to energy saving for the environment.
ZyXEL's GS-105B desktop switch is designed for reliable high-performance networks. The store-and-forward service brings low-latency and error-free packet delivery. With these features, the transmission efficiency can be boosted dramatically.
With the N-way auto-negotiation function, the GS-105B automatically connects to its network counterparts with the highest possible network speed and activates duplex mode automatically. All it takes to enliven your network is just plugging in the cable, and no manual configuration is required.
The stylish compact metal housing fits any working environment. GS-105B comes with different port configurations for affordable and reliable SOHO network expansion needs.
Please note: networking components such as switches, routers and wireless devices require that speeds & standards be consistent throughout the network to gain optimum performance. To avoid compatibility clashes or for advice, please contact us on solutions@ebuyer.com.

Does what it says on the box
operating system:Not ApplicableI was surprised just how small this switch is, though with 5 ports I guess it doesn't need much in the way of circuitry.
Suffice to say it performs as expected with a quick run of the TTCP tool showing 95MB/s throughout (which is very high).
Dirt cheap too!
Piece of cake
operating system:Windows VistaThis is so simple.
Unpack. Connect to power. Connect one port to the router. Connect other(s) to pcs or other apparatus as required. Switch on and go.
It really is that easy.
As a bonus it looks pretty good, too, in an unobtrusive way.
Seems flaky
I was in two minds whether to buy this or the Netgear Prosafe GS105 at £39.99, netgear switches are normally pretty reliable. A momentary weakness led me to go for the cheaer Zyxel, i couldn't see any difference, both supported Jumbo frames, both are metal enclosures.
On experimenting with a Win7 Pro 64b laptop and a Synology DS211+ NAS i find that the switch suddenly drop to a crawl speedwise. Sometimes i'd get 50-60MB/s, then on the next transfer it drops to sub 1MB/s. Power cycling seemed to make no difference once it was in this state, reconnecting patch cables would sometimes get the rate back up but not always. I then repeated my tests with HP Procure 1410-16G which i happened to have and the speed was always 40-70MB/s
Needless to say i wished i got the Netgear and i will shy away from cheap zyxel stuff in the future. Probably not worth the hassle/cost of returning it!
Great for everything apart from playing back HD videos
operating system:Windows 7When I first tried this little thing out I was really impressed with the speeds I got with file transfers, but unfortunatly it all went downhill when I tried to play back 1080p HD videos across my network.
Transfering the files from 1 PC to another was super fast, but once you try and play them back in Windows Media Player everything falls apart and the video starts to stutter.
I replaced the switch with a slower 100mbit switch and volla, the issue was gone. To make matters worse, after contacting ZyXel support about the issue they didn't seem that interested and blamed it on IGMP support. Something that my 100mbit switch doesn't support either yet that worked fine.
So, if you don't plan on ever watching 1080p videos across your network then this is great. If you do, you might want to pick another switch.
