Excellent for the office
operating system:Windows XPI got this monitor after my last Hanns-G died after 10 years - not a bad length of service. And the other two Hanns-G screens I got at the same time are still going strong, so I'd expect this one to last too.
I'd originally bought an Acer screen from eBuyer but realised that it was useless for office work like wordprocessing. Who wants their Word document about 18" wide and only 8" high? A widescreen is fine if all you're doing is watching DVDs but for browsing, word processing and spreadsheets the Hanns-G 19" wins Hanns down (couldn't resist the pun). All credit to eBuyer for taking the Acer screen back without question.
Good and bad points:
The screen is bright, in fact I realised it was set at 100% by default so I turned it down.
It comes with a setup CD which apparently only runs on Windows 7 which is quite surprising given the huge number of people who must still use XP or Vista. However, the screen worked fine out of the box on my old XP system.
My only other criticism would be that the menu buttons are on the underside of the screen and have no readable labels. On my old Hanns-G they were on the front and easily identifiable.
There are also built in speakers mounted at the bottom of the screen but pointing downwards, fine for an office or if deskspace is at a premium, but if you're watching films on it don't expect great sound quality.
One last bit of very good news is that the warranty is for three years and is an onsite exchange warranty, not the one year shown on the Ebuyer information.
If the buttons were visible and the setup CD covered older computers I'd give this 5 stars.
Overall though, it's a fantastic deal. To pay less for this screen than for an almost identical one 10 years ago is amazing!
