The usual rapid delivery from Ebuyer
operating system:Windows 7The usual rapid delivery from Ebuyer, excellent! Bought this as I'm staying in various hotels/apartments around the world so wanted an easy way to connect to lots of different TV's. And it does it perfectly, usually using the composite output. Now the really good bit - my 2.5" 500gb sata usb drive works a treat with it using just the power supplied from the usb socket so I can take all my entertainment with me for very little space/weight. And it cleans the image quality as well! The only slightly negative aspects are the range of the remote is about 2m max, and it won't recognise files of the Microsoft recorded TV format - but then again, very little does.
AMAZING!
operating system:Not ApplicableComes with a 5.6v 2A UK power adapter which has a standard 5v DC plug, so if the adapter is damaged for whatever reason you should be able to find a suitable replacement. I tried using a 5v 1A adapter, but when I plugged in my 2.5in HDD, it wasn't supplying enough juice to power them both.
The remote feels really nice and sturdy. It comes with a standard CR2025 battery which is very easy to replace (most drug stores and camera shops have them). The buttons are of the silicone/rubber membrane type like those found on a small calculator, and some of them have icons painted on, so they might wear off after like a year of heavy use. If you want to keep the plastic bag on it (to protect it from Pepsi spillage and popcorn fingers), you will have to open it first, to remove the bit of plastic in the battery slot.
It also comes with a sturdy-feeling phono AV cable (red, white, yellow) but no scart adapter.
HDMI cable not included. Pro Tip: the one with a £2 price tag will give you the same picture and sound quality as the one with a £50 price tag.
Being a proper geek, I had to remove the 4 little screws and have a look at the circuit board too! Really nice bit of kit. Beautiful red circuit board and high quality, like a PC motherboard or graphics card. I expect this will last a very long time.
Even the box it comes in is high quality stuff!
It recognises my 500GB hard drive and everything on it. Navigating the on-screen menu is really easy, but it wont show the full length of long file names because the right half of the screen is for a details and preview area. If you select a video and wait a second or two, it will start playing the video in this area (with sound) and scroll the text so you can see more of the file name. The file list is in alphabetical order, so you can guess by counting them which episode of the TV show you're looking at. Then again, if you don't like this, you can always move your hard drive, memory card, or whatever to a pc and rename your files :)
I'm going to buy a few more as Christmas presents. Way better than a bit of paper with a picture of Adam Smith on it.
Brilliant piece of kit!
operating system:Windows 7I remember when stand alone media players came onto the market a while back and you needed to hook in a 3.5 inch HDD, which didn't come with it either.
Ordered on Sunday 27th Sept and arrived 2pm the following day. Worked straight out the box, the remote is a bit flimsy as the previous commenter said but it's still functional.
I can't believe how small this thing is, it's smaller than a box of 20 cigarettes! Haven't tried to play all the different media types, just a couple of divx avi files I already had on an 8gb USB stick and they played straight away.
Seriously cool piece of kit!
What about HD?
This plays a lot of different video formats, but what about actual 1080p HD videos? I want to get one but if it cant play actual HD videos, then isn't it a bit limited? Then again for the price, this sounds absolutely brilliant.
