Mixed blessing
operating system:Mac OSXI hated this device to start with, I mean I loathed the hell out it if and it sat in the corner taunting me. I got it back in January and had no end of problems printing wirelessly with it to begin with. I would say 75% of the time it wouldn't print, the print jobs just sat in the queue. I couldn't pause or delete them. Scans wouldn't start and I got an onscreen progress bar that didn't progress, the whole experience drove me nuts. I had to force close HP Scan every time. I still continued to try because I was deluded enough to think it might start working. I even got an RMA from eBuyer to return it as it just wasn't working for me. Then 2 things happened:
1. HP issued a firmware update.
Which resulted in more reliable printing and slightly better scanning. And then a month or so later:
2. I replaced my Sky Sagem wireless router with a Netgear DGND3700.
What can I say, I can't remember the last time wireless printing failed. Also, the updated HP firmware now supports scanning direct to a Mac through the onscreen printer menu. Very useful.
OK, so it's working now. What's it like?
Printing is fast and in B&W mode I find the print to be excellent. Colour is fine, I only print a few colour docs and they come out looking good. Speed is good for both B&W and colour. Duplex printing works well and cuts down on paper use. I like duplex printing.
Scanning is a little slow, however the results are fine. You get the choice to saving them as PDF or JPGs. Also the ability to email them directly which I haven't bothered with. There's also an OCR option which saves to rich text format and the results are good if the source document is a standard letter or has simple formatting.
Faxing, hello 1990s. Not used this, don't think I ever will.
The document feeder works well providing the original documents are in good condition. If they've been folded or stapled then the feeder sometimes pulls two through, but I think that would be the case for most document feeders.
The apps you can access via the touchscreen are just a gimmick. I looked at them when I first set the printer up and haven't felt the need to revisit them since.
Supplies are reasonably priced and you can replace just the ink you need to as there separated in to cyan, magenta, yellow & black ink cartridges.
Overall I'm happy with it now. I've recently got over my initial disappointment hence the 6 month review.
