Great, compact little scanner
operating system:Windows 7This is so simple to set up and use that anyone could do it. The only minor criticism of the instructions is that they refer to "an administrator" which, if you're a beginner, could be meaningless. However, a minor niggle. The rest is fine, if a little obviously translated!.
Standard of scans is likely not to be as good as a more expensive device but I have yet to look at that properly and could be wrong. Speed seems very acceptable It does what it says on the tin, without fuss.

Linux Compatibility requires a little bit of effort
operating system:LinuxBought one of these...cos I am cheap (why else would I use Linux?) Canon unfortunately do not support Linux for this device sadly...But a quick run through various sites including the SANE show that support for Linux is "complete". Complete, that is, if you 1) have the very latest SANE package 2) don't need the easy button facilities, and 3) don't need Libreoffice to import scan directly. For my odd distro I did need to compile from source modify a couple of files (genesys.conf and udev/rules.d/*libsane.rules)...plenty of websites give you advice about this.
Results..quick and easy and good quality scanning. The Simple Scan utility works cleanly and err.. simply. The device is slim, lightweight and powered from USB. Excellent value for money.
