Quality Keyboard that works with Ubuntu 11.10
operating system:LinuxI bought this keyboard specifically for the back lighting on the keys as my computer is located in a dark area. Firstly I have to say that I am not using this with Windows and so I cannot comment on the re programmable keys using the Windows software. I am using it with UBUNTU 11.10 (Linux).
The keyboard comes well packed and is quite substantial in its construction being much heavier than my previous keyboard. It took about 3 hours to charge up. I plugged in the WiFi transmitter into a free USB port, switched on the keyboard and then the PC. The machine booted into the login screen and the keyboard worked immediately allowing me to input my password.
The first thing you will notice is that the keyboard lights up for 5 seconds when switched on, it then fades to black. When you put your hands near the board to type the back lighting switches on, this is to save battery power. The keys are very responsive in switching the back lighting back on, there is no hanging around.
The keys themselves are good quality and make a definite click when you hit one. The function keys can be re-programmed under Windows but I have not found a Linux application that will do this yet. It isn't too important to me as I very rarely use the function keys anyway.
The charge should last several days but you can plug the USB charging cable in when using the keyboard. A full charge will take 5 hours with the keyboard in use or 3 hours with it switched off.
It is an expensive keyboard but you get what you pay for. If you have the need for a back light wireless keyboard then this could just be the one for you, especially if you use the keyboard a lot.
