Just Works
operating system:Windows 7Installed with drivers that came with it and then updated to intel drivers which nearly doubled the speed. There is a firmware update as well which I haven't tried yet. USB 2.0 devices also work faster (30%) with this than the onboard ports !!
The good and the bad
operating system:Windows 7The bad is that this does not come with a molex adapter!?! It is, as stated before, a floppy disc connector. I found you could buy one either from Amazon or from your local Maplin for about £2, so not the end of the world. I did need it though for my USB-powered Western Digital My Passport drive.
The good news: My write speeds on the WD went from 34MB/s to 104MB/s (according to Crystal Benchmark). In real-world image backup from Win 7 I did achieve 95MB/s.
So: all-in-all, a great upgrade for reducing my backup times x3 :)
Just One Drawback...
operating system:LinuxDoes exactly as required, and provides 2 USB 3.0 ports. The downside is that it requires a MOLEX power supply to be connected, and most newer systems (especially slimline or mass produced - eg Dell) only have SATA power connectors.
That just means that you'll need to pick up an adapter on the Bay, which only costs around 1.50. It's not a deal breaker, but it would have been thoughtful of Plexus to include one, especially with this new technology. Make sure you investigate and order as required!
Different power connector
Note that though the picture clearly shows a Molex power connector, the one supplied to me had a 4-pin floppy disk power socket on it instead, which was a pain - my power supply has 2 spare Molex, but no floppy plugs.
Adaptors are cheap on the Bay though.
Also, it does not seem to work properly with Linux kernel 3.0.0-12. Shows up Ok as a USB3 device, but an external USB3 caddy does not get detected.
