Vertex 3
operating system:Windows 7Had one of these since they 1st came out & cost me 240. Coming from the Vertex 2 you dont notice much difference, although boots times are incredible & game loads, the whole system in general is lightning with the vertex 2 or 3. Just make sure your board has Intel or AMD sata 3 ports, so worth researching that before or might as well just buy the vertex 2 (sata 2)
Amazing!
operating system:Windows 7Having always used standard mechanical HDDs for my system this is my first experience of using SSDs. I must say that impressed is an understatement! This thing is lightning fast - booting windows takes no more than 8 or 9 seconds to the desktop with all startup items loaded. Games load so much more quickly than on a mechanical HDD and you really find the benefit of an SSD when it comes to productivity such as launching MS Office programs. Word 2010 opens in barely 1 second!
It does appear that there are still some teething problems which need to be ironed out with SSD technology in general related to general stability problems and performance. I should note that these problems can be related to ALL SSDs and not just OCZ's range. One of the most common problems appears to be people experiencing random BSODs and upon a reboot, the SSD not being detected in BIOS which prevents windows from starting. This is resolved by flashing the SSD with the latest firmware available from the OCZ website (at the time of this review the latest available is V2.11 - my drive came with V2.06 and had the BSOD issue). Once the drive is flashed, it is then recommended to clear the CMOS on your motherboard and update your BIOS to the latest available from your manufacturer. It seems the issue is between SSDs and Sandy Bridge motherboards so update to the latest BIOS as manufacturers are continually resolving these incompatibilities. Finally ensure that you are running the drive in 'AHCI' mode and that Hot-Plugging is enabled in the BIOS and install the latest Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver from Intel's website.
These are the steps recommended by staff on OCZ's forums to resolve the BSOD / drive not detected issue so thought it would be useful to post here for anybody experiencing any problems with the drive.
Since I updated to firmware V2.11 and flashed my BIOS the drive is completely stable and runs faster than on the old firmware, so just goes to show ensure you keep everything up to date!
I highly recommend this drive - still not used to the speed yet!
sata II compatability
To the guy above who states you should have sata 3...i would like to ask why? sata II speeds are huge anyway and surely not going to bottleneck the speed of this drive. Plus is states "backwards compatible with sata II" so i am assuming this drive works on sata II. just becuase its the Vertex 3 doesnt mean it only works on sata 3.
Unless someone wants to correct me and explain why you need sata 3 for this drive?
Excellent performance
operating system:Windows 7I have this as my OS drive (AHCI mode), Windows 7 Ultimate x64,
Windows rates it as 7.9
Boots windows in around 5 seconds, everything loads very quickly and of course it is silent,
I have had no issues with it and would recommend this drive to anyone.
