Cheap, but definitely not nasty
operating system:Windows 7I bought this to replace an ageing D-Link Wireless ADSL router. On the advice of a magazine comparative review (PCPro?) I chose thiis one in prefernce to the N300 version.
I used the software in the box and it rapidly transformed my Windows 7 desktop system for the better. Entering the brave new world of ADSL2 immediately upgraded broadband from 8M to 10.5M, which gradually crept up (as it does) to 13M. Thank you TalkTalk.
The secure wireless connection to my Vista Laptop was made almost instantaneously using the magic green QSS button and the PIN number from the bottom of the router. Connection to the laptop viabuilt in G is very solid and fast (speed not measured but files go over fast and the 13M boadband takes no hit at all.)
So far(about 2 months) I have not lost the ADSL connection once.
In the process of setting up, it caused my Humax Freesat to be able to access iplayer over the net via the ethernet router, this haveing previously evaded all my efforts.
And I also had the offer of a free USB wireless dongle (no longer available I am afraid.)
Buy!
Excellent value
operating system:Windows 7I bought this to replace a slightly aging combination of 4-port modem and wireless access-point. It was easy to setup, does everything in one box and has maintained a completely stable connection (I was rebooting my old modem at least once a day). Added to that, I've seen a 4-fold speed increase. Definitely recommended.
Absurdly pleased
operating system:Windows 7We have a tricky ADSL connection that in the last year has befuddled a Belkin, nuked the networking on a Netgear and bricked a Linksys. (Yeah, literally--bizarre, I know). I mostly bought the TP-Link because it was cheap so no great loss if it didn't work. My hopes were not high.
The modem/router arrived with sensible packaging, clear instructions and a mini-CD that did what it said it was going to do. Setup was a doddle, it found the connection quickly, and every device I've tried (laptop, smartphone, Xbox, e-reader) has found the network first try. I've used a lot of modem/routers over the years, and this has been the simplest to set up--and possibly the fastest to reboot too. Bonus points for extreme cheapness for what it is; negative points for looking so horrible that I have hidden it in case visitors glance at it and are turned to stone. Hire a product designer, TP-Link, and you'll conquer the world.
