Amazing
The design and build quality of this case is amazing, none of the normal sharp edges you get and very sturdy construction, I have just swapped over from an Antec case and the cooling is much better with this one with the 3 supplied fans being very quiet to my suprise.
Im running a Core 2 Quad 2.5 with 3 SATA HDD's and temps are staying very low, one change i did make was to move the front mounted 140mm fan to the top of the case so they was 2 in the top and move the rear 120mm to the front, it was also a nice change to find they left the leads from the front panel to the motherboard longer than most case makers which made bulding much easier.
Overall in the years i have been bulding computers this is one of the nicest cases i have ever used, well done to Fractal Design.
Brilliant case for the price
operating system:Windows 7I did my first PC build with this case a month ago. It's got some very nice features, such as the bundled fan controller and 3 fans. The fans are of a decent quality, and are quite quiet. The design is very refined and modest, which I like in a case. It seems to be keeping my Intel 2500 CPU very cool, as well as my Radeon 6790, so that's also good.
Installation went fine, although there seemed not to be much room for cable routing, so it ended up a little bit untidy, but it wasn't too bad.
The only thing which I really would like more of is documentation. As a first-timer, although it proved very easy to do, I was initally somewhat overawed by the lack of instructions.
Overall, I would give this product 5 stars for the features, the great amount of expandability (it has more than enough hard drive bays and fan slots for most needs!) and the price.
Great case, regardless of price
operating system:Windows 7I have to say, when I opened the box, I was slightly taken aback. The design of this case is quite simple, but the austere black look is actually very impressive.
The thumbscrews for removing the case panels are very useful, and quite easy to take off. The amount of drive bays - wow. I certainly won't be short of space when installing any additional drives! Another good feature is the fact that there are 4 x USB 2.0 slots on the top of the case, sitting alongside an audio/mic plugs and the power button. This is quite convenient as I have the computer sat on the floor beside me.
As far as cooling is concerned, the case has 4 rubber feet which keep it sat a few mm above the floor (in my case, carpet). I'm running an i5-2500k, and with the 3 included case fans running at the lowest setting, I get idle core temps of around 30-40 degrees C. I think the highest I've ever seen it go in the month or so of running it is 50-60 degrees (when I was rendering a 12MP image with AutoCAD whilst running various other programs). And there's a dial you can install at the back to vary the speed of the fans, which are pretty quiet even when running at max speed.
The only slight problem I had with this case was the quality of some of the thumb-screws used to attach the plates at the back (which you need to remove to for graphics and sound outputs), it required me to almost force it out using a blunt object on one side whilst unscrewing from the other. The optical drive installation is also a bit tricky, but gets easier once you've done the first. However, as these are things you're not likely to change very often, these are very minor issues on a brilliant case.
So in summary: 6 drive bays, great cooling with 3 fans of variable speed and the option of having up to four more (?!), relatively easy installation with a couple of minor issues, looks great. 5 stars.
Good features
operating system:Windows 7With graphics cards getting ever increasingly powerful my system started to struggle with the heat that my graphics cards produced.
I had a very basic case that only had 1 rear 120 mm fan slot and 2 front slots for 80mm fans. In heavy gaming sessions I began to encounter several erroneous problems which I narrowed down to heat issues.
It was time to upgrade my case. After some consideration I had two cases on my shortlist. The Antec 300 which if you check online has much praise and this new Fractal case. I decided on the Fractal as it has 2 top slots for fans vs 1 on the Antec and thought that this might be useful in future should I want to add yet another fan/radiator.
At £52.95, apparently reduced by £10.04 this brings it into the same price range of the Antec.
I also liked the design and the white fans and you get 3 pre-installed with the Fractal.
The case is virtually the same size as my old one but the design and layout really is leaps and bounds better.
The case has alot of features for its price range. I like the bottom mounted psu position, with a removeable filter. This means my PSU now circulates cooler air from outside the case to keep it cool. In my old case the system temp. was really high when gaming and all that hot air passed straight through the psu.
I like the removable mid HD cage. This allows unpeded air flow right from the front mounted intake fan and allows some of the longer graphics cards to be installed.
The rubber mounts to rest the psu and hard disc drives on are a nice touch.
I hate PC noise. With that in mind the Fractal fans included are very quiet but that is to be expected as they run at low rpm's. The top 140mm fan I believe is running at 1000 rpm. My old 120mm ran at 1400 rpm and was a 'quiet' model. These are an improvement in noise levels. Accordingly they shift air in line with the lower rpm speed. Obviously they will not shift as much air as faster running fans but in this case I can now install more fans, so this isn't an issue.
The fans do look flimsy and I was concerned when I saw them but they do seem to do a nice job. Certainly I won't be replacing them until one fails.
I like thumbscrews they make life easier. But didn't like the pointy ones that I got with this case. They make lining the threads up more difficult and I found myself fiddling around way too often trying to get them back in.
Overall I am more than pleased with the purchase and if you are looking for a modern case with good features with quiet fans included you won't go far wrong with the Fractal core 3000.
