Excellent and economical
operating system:Windows 7Highly recommended.
This graphics card has many features EBuyer is not advertising, such as ATI Stream - which is supposed to take the load off your CPU for many computing tasks. Basically a similar set of features to high-end graphics cards, but for much less.
Granted, this card is from an earlier GPU generation than the latest ones out, but it's solved my problems with Google Earth (now works smoothly as silk) and various other desktop graphics jitters. Windows Experience Index rates this:
Aero: 2.0 (I don't believe this personally, as it seems very good in practice)
Gaming graphics: 4.8 (seems about right, though I haven't tried any games).
The only thing to remember about ATI cards like this one is that if you're using HDMI (in conjunction with other ports) on a 1920x1080 screen, ATI by default "underscans" that screen so that you get the black border effect with the 1920x1080 desktop area shrunk down. To correct this problem you have to install the ATI Catalyst software (included on the disc in the box, or available on PowerColor's website), and change some settings in there. After that, everything works perfectly.
Experience Index / Speed
I have a similar card (the ATI rage) which also scores 2.0 in the Windows 7 Experience Index.
I tried overclocking the (DDR3) memory from its standard 400MHz to 500 MHz, then re-ran the experience index. It now scores 2.6!
It would therefore seem that if you want to run Aero and other similar stuff, get a card with the fastest memory possible. I believe you can get 800MHz memory on these cards, which should (in theory) get an index of closer to 4.0.
The card seemed stable at this frequency, so perhaps the main reason it's set to 400MHz as standard is because it doesn't have a fan on the heatsink.
