Great Value For Money
operating system:Windows 7I have owned this monitor for just over a month now and I am dead impressed with it. You will struggle to find a monitor with an equally good picture as this one. I have used with my PC and I sli 2 xfx 260 graphics cards which picked up the monitor fine with no need for any drivers and runs fine at 1080p. The colors in this monitor is next to nothing... I have a friend who shelled out £1600 for one of the new 3D Samsung led tv's and this monitor has MUCH better colors... and for a mere percentage of the price.
The xbox also works perfect, I will admit to being a complete geek and I take my xbox and monitor to a friends house where we will play for 14 hours straight, I can tell you this monitor is very comfortable on the eye and will automatically adjust the back lighting to suit the light conditions in the room which is very handy. The 3.5mm jack is extremely useful for headphones etc.
At less than 18 watts when used to max capacity this monitor is extremely energy efficient and the sensors on the front detect when you walk away from the computer which automatically sends the monitor to sleep, a very useful function.
There are a couple of downsides though...
First off there is no mounting capability on the back, I've heard there is a version which does but I've not found it on ebuyer.
Second is the MASSIVE bezel, when I saw the monitor only burned 17 watts I thought I wouldn't feel bad about using multiple monitors for gaming but when it arrived I realized that would no be an option with a bezel nearly 2 inches thick. Although in it's defense the bezel is a transparent blue which appears to 'glow' with a little back-lighting
All in all I think that if you are trying to save the environment and save your bank balance without sacrificing excellence whether in gaming or work this monitor is for you.
If however your looking to mount this monitor with 1 or 2 others for eyefinity.... look for something else.
Oh it also might be worth mentioning that like the previous reviewer I also had dead pixels, one black one bright red... Its possible ebuyer may have just had a bad batch
Nice monitor for my requirements
operating system:Windows XPWe use Phillips, HP & Samsung LCD & LED monitors at my workplace, & it seems the Phillips screen size is squarer & less "letterbox" than comparable Samsung or HP 23.6" / 24" models, which I prefer. Our Phillips LCD's work well, so on that basis I decided to go for the Phillips LED monitor from Ebuyer for my home pc.
It works great straight out of the box on my XP system with no need to run additional drivers (using a 3 year old NVidia card). I just upp'ed the display settings to 1920 x 1080, lowered the brightness on the monitor to 50% (set to 100% by the factory!) & that was it.
It has a tilt stand which initially wobbles. Settles down fine & doesn't matter at all once it's sitting on the desk though. Touch controls are as good as any.
My requirement is for a decent sized monitor that I can primarily use for design software (namely, freebies such as Google SketchUp & 123D), flight sims & for general use.
I give it five stars for meeting my requirements, but anyone who wants a mountable monitor or a thin bezel should look elsewhere. Anyone who wants to stretch their desktop across two identical monitors would ideally want the thinnest bezel going, & this isn't it.
I don't miss the DVI monitor socket as I plan to upgrade my video card to something with HDMI ports anyway, & the VGA connection is currently fine.
Review / First Impressions
operating system:Windows 7Bought this when it was on sale for £130. I used to have a Samsung LE26R88BD or something from 2008, which met an unfortunate end via a rouge wireless keyboard. This monitor Arrived safe and sound 2 days later. I've been using it for 4 hours or so now.
Well packaged, and the base is easy to attach. It looks expensive and has a quality feel to it. It came with a UK and European power cable, VGA Cable and software CD. Software CD .exe program is useless, I had to intstall the drivers manually from the disk which is easy if you know what you're doing. I'm not sure how necessary the drivers are though.
It has two HDMI and 1 VGA (no DVI like in the picture) inputs. It also has a 3.5mm stereo jack Output, which is useful for me when I am playing my xbox 360 over HDMI- I plug the stereo cable from monitor into my computer speakers' input using a £1 3.5mm splitter, so the sound 'flows' through the monitor and out into the speakers.
For my graphics, I have 2x ATI 4890 in crossfire.
Had lots of problems getting the display to work properly at native (or any) resolution. A lot of fiddling around later and it turned out my graphics card was underscanning by 10% by default, so all the resolutions had a 10% border around them. This was changed in the ATI software (CCC). Windows 7 resolution changer can't do this. VGA mode didn't report that it could do 1920*1080, had to manually 'unlock' it and set it. Xbox detected 1080p fine, works fine with the sound output.
However, once it was all working at native resolution I was impressed with the brightness and contrast. Both can be manually adjusted, and there are 3 presets- Standard, Gaming and Internet. Colour options are 6300K and 9xxx somethingK, sRGB and Manual R/G/B settings. I do have a single dead/bright subpixel, which is too few to be covered by warrenty.
The menu is fairly easy to understand and navigate, but is ruined the rubbish touch inputs do not always detect your touch (and I am experienced with persuading touch controls to work because of my previous TV/Monitor). There is also no physical lump which looks nice when you can see it, but means you cannot use the buttons in the dark as you cannot work out each button from feeling it's relative position.
The screen also wobbles around quite a lot from my keystrokes, however, that might just be my heavy typing and wobbly desk. But the screen is pretty wide for the base it has.
