Does exactly what it should

Not used the Direct-TV feature yet, don't really need to, but from what I read on reviews elsewhere, its pretty good.

Awesome...that's exactly what it is! Looks great, looks solid and works straight out the box. For the price it's a steal and it it looks so nice.
nice little DVD burner
operating system:Not ApplicableI got this unit because i have a smart tv, but it sadly didn't work on that - but thankfully i have a Sumvision media player and it works nicely on that. I got it mainly though as a replacement for my broken internal DVD writer that decided to play games in the last few months - and having the portability to media player is a bonus. The firmware upgrade ability via a PC is really handy as well.
My only bug bear as with any devices like this is that it doesn't seem very sturdy - its made from cheap plastic and feels like it might break very easily - but saying that it is great for the money and does the job it was designed to do.
A/V mode works with Sony Bravia TV
operating system:Not ApplicableWhen set to its A/V mode, AVI files play directly on my Bravia TV. Sometimes it works with no more than the power supplied from the TV's USB port, but sometimes the TV complains that the drive wants wants too much current, so you may need an external supply. (The specs call for 1.4 amps in total which is equivalent to three USB ports!) Since the TV is not designed to decode standard DVDs, these don't play via a direct connection.
Connected to a Xenta media player, the drive will appear as a DVD drive, or if switched to the A/V mode it will appear as a USB device. In either case, DVDs and AVI files play flawlessly.
A bit noisy during initial seeking, but once it has settled down it is almost inaudible. A green LED on the front flashes while playing but it is quite dim and was not distracting. The drive comes supplied with a Y cable and Nero Essentials 10, but I have not tried to burn anything with it.
