good value
operating system:Windows 7purchase decision was based on minimum bloatware as this is for my parents who are not computer savvy.just the job, great spec webcam, bluetooth(not many around with this now)sandybridge etc.also comes with backup discs for windows and drivers.no problems as yet and would consider one of these for myself.
Good but not anti-glare
operating system:Windows 7One reason I bought this was the specified anti-glare screen. But as the other reviewer says, it is not. I for one dislike losing 20-30% of viewing clarity under normal conditions. I thought such glare went the way of the dodo with CRT screens, but it seems they look more shiny and trendy on the shelves for impulse buyers. Some people believed the claims of an improvement in laboratory conditions (ie. a completely black room) but why then are those highest rated LCD screens by photographers, like the BenQ G2420 and others - matte/anti-glare?
With a laptop it is not as bad though as Android tablets. Just go to any store demo shelf and take a look at the grease and slime all over from fingers - anything you can still see through all that butter, earwax and mucus, is 50% glare.
Anyway, I've only knocked one star off, because mostly the rest are the same - though I am pleased to have just noticed a new Samsung laptop on the local shelves breaking the trend.
This Fujitsu laptop unfortunately does also grease up instantly all over the piano shine on the keyboard and touchpad, so keep the kitchen roll handy if you want anyone to be impressed. Another downside is the age that it takes to set up from new (more than others) then another age to remove the junk software (like others). The hard drive is not rocket-like either, but overall the performance is good.
Despite all this, once set up it is actually a good laptop, especially for the price. Also, the build quality is not as flimsy as a similarly priced Samsung for example - but still not heavy.
Unless you pile on junk software, it has all the memory and disk space you will need, at least for a laptop (this is not for video editing etc.) The only improvement could possibly have been a faster 7200rpm disk, but you don't notice this unless copying a lot or installing something big, and it's not bad anyway. The processor is fine too, especially for regular home/office use, much better than a Celeron.
The keyboard has nice raised buttons, like Macs originally I think, then on the best ever netbook (the Asus 1000he) and now it seems to be a trend.
Sound is stereo and fine, if lacking in bass as to be expected. The machine itself is quiet also.
The screen is a nice wide aspect and very bright - though best to set auto-hide on the taskbar to get an extra vertical half inch viewing.
Battery life seems reasonable also. I got three solid hours plus on maximum performance and max brightness settings with power preservation software disabled. But if you leave the power tweaks on you can improve on that dramatically.
It wasn't for myself - if it was I'd be absolutely sure to get a matte screen - but this is a very good laptop for those who don't mind.
Screen is not a matte anti-glare
Be aware, this does NOT have an anti glare screen, it is glossy. According to the Fujitsu web site only the AH530 has an anti-glare option, it is not available on the AH531.
