GZ-HM430
operating system:Windows 7This is a great little camera for the price. (on offer at £130). Its main selling point being the x40 optical zoom and a fast lens (f/1.8-6.3), which gives it a quite good low light performance.
The HD video quality is good for a camera in this price range. Unlike the cheaper JVC HM30, this HM430 doesnt upscale 720p to 1080p, but is true 1080p, or at least pretty close to it. At high zoom magnifications the video quality does suffer a bit of softness, but considering the price, the optics are pretty good.
Autofocus works well, but there is a manual focus option which has to be selected from the menu. It uses the up down menu buttons, which can be is a bit fiddly to use. There are also a couple of other welcome manual settings - white balance and brightness adjust, so its possible to set exposure manually.
The battery is a 700mAh and battery life isnt exceptional. Replacement batteries don't seem too cheap at the moment either.
