A ready-to-use, out-of-the-box solution, the SV411K 4-port KVM switch kit comes complete with four reliable StarTech.com 3-in-1 cables to remove tangles and help organize your workspace. Cable ports are located at the rear of the SV411K providing easy, no-nonsense cable identification and organization. Ports are switched by pressing a button on the unit, or by entering a simple keyboard hot-key sequence. The StarView prevents boot-up errors by providing keyboard and mouse emulation to the non-selected PC. Switching between Windows XP and Linux server
operating system:LinuxUsed to successfully share a monitor, keyboard and wheel mouse between two Windows XP machines and a Linux server.
No additional power required.
The only slight issue with Linux is the need to boot the Linux machine when it is the currently selected device, otherwise it doesn't pick-up the video input.
Well built, neat piece of kit with good quality cables.
Notes
Cable length is 1.8m, like it says in the extended description! ... it also mentions only 2 cables (not 4 as you might assume) are provided.
Cable Length / keyboard hot-key sequence
Does anyone know the cable lengths? Also what is the hot key sequence?
Anyone tried this with Linux?
Is anyone using this with a recent version of Linux? I've found some KVMs (like my trusty old Dakota Scout) give problems with the scroll wheel under recent versions of Linux. Seems unlikely I know, but others have also reported similar problems with some KVMs.
