plastic protective cover
Any orbital mouse on a surface like that or glass will go wonky because the optical sensor can't get a fix on it's position because of reflection back from such a surface... These are nice on the wrist, not as hard as some other gel-mouse mats on the go.
Very comfortable, but not great with optical mice
operating system:Not ApplicableWell, I bought one of these the other day for my second computer. As the title says, it`s pretty easy on the wrist. There was a problem though - I tested it with two (optical) mice: a 64326 which I`ve had for a while and always used with a fabric mat that I got from PC world, and a 76486 which I ordered at the same time as this new mat (numbers are eBuyer quickfind codes).
With the mat as it came out of the packet, both mice skipped a lot on it, the pointer jumped all over the place. I looked at the mat more closely and found an extra layer of plastic stuck to the part the mouse itself goes on, which was fairly straightforward to peel off. Maybe the layer was intended to be removed, but there was nothing about removing it in the instructions, and it doesn`t look like your standard clear plastic protective layer. Anyway, with the layer off, both mice stopped skipping, but the 64326 mouse sticks to it a bit, which makes it somewhat annoying to use. It seems to be fine with the 76486 mouse though.
To be honest, next time I would buy a different mat. This one is not too bad for the price though!
Further info
OK, further to my review earlier, I tested another optical mouse 90748 on this pad. This one didn`t work properly with the pad in its modified form, but worked perfectly when I stuck the extra bit of plastic back on. I guess it wasn`t there purely as a protective cover. Strange. Anyway, I still like my fabric-covered mouse mat better!
