Apple is reportedly set to introduce ready-made ringtones for the iPhone, after it obtained the rights to sell them through a deal with the music industry.
The custom-made ringtones, which are expected to be officially announced at a September 9 press conference, will enable iPhone users to obtain a pre-cut ringtone instead of having to create their own.
According to reports, Apple may also sell the ringtones on the same date if it can get them ready in time.
The California-based firm, which has declined to comment on the speculation, is also expected to introduce a new digital album cover codenamed Cocktail. Upgraded versions of iPods may also be unveiled.
Apple's scheduled announcement of the new music snippets, which coincides with the release of The Beatles: Rock Band video game, has also led to rumours that the Beatles catalogue is soon coming to iTunes.
