The BBC iPlayer has been a successful tool, according to one industry expert.
Julian Clover, editorial director of Broadband TV News - a site that features comment and analysis on the delivery of digital television - said that the broadcasting giant's service is ahead of ITV Player and SeeSaw, both of which need to become more in the public consciousness.
But he added that there are some varying reports around that suggest consumers are happy to watch TV on their PC, although a similar service is available on the former.
Moreover, Ofcom recently published a press release that revealed the amount of time people watch TV on average - three hours and 45 minutes a day - is consistent with internet growth.
And its research from the first quarter of 2010 found that 31 per cent of households that have the internet use it to watch catch-up TV.
