GamesMaster show may return to TV

Computer and video games show GamesMaster to could make a return to television this year.

The brand's owner Future says it is planning to bring the popular 90s' programme back to the small screen.

According to reports, the publishing group has been actively discussing the revival with TV networks and production companies. One terrestrial network is believed to have shown considerable interest in the show.

The original series ran from 1991 until February 1998 on Channel 4. Future has long been publishing a tie-in magazine under licence from the company owned by GamesMaster's creator Jane Hewland.

Last year, the publisher acquired the brand and has now outlined a major expansion strategy across multi-media platforms.

It is planning an extensive redesign of the magazine, which is due to be unveiled in May.

Simon Maxwell, group publisher of Future's console and online portfolio, said: "GamesMaster is a key gaming brand for Future and there are some fantastic opportunities to expand its reach and influence beyond the magazine.

"This year, we'll bring a comprehensively redesigned GamesMaster magazine to market, develop an online presence through our existing sites, and explore the appetite for bringing the show back to TV."
