Hewlett Packard (HP) has retained its top spot in the global PC market for the 16th consecutive quarter, a study has found.
The brand has a market share of 18.1 per cent in the second quarter (Q2) and has experienced a year-on-year growth of 11.4 per cent, data from iSuppli has revealed.
But in a battle for second place, Dell moved ahead of Taiwanese rival Acer.
The former shipped more than 10.5 million units globally and had a 16.7 per cent year-on-year growth.
Matthew Wilkins, principal analyst for compute platforms research at iSuppli, said the Q2 results show that the competition between Dell and Acer is not over and will continue "to rage".
He added: "With its product line heavily focused on mobile PCs, Acer's sequential decline in notebook shipments impacted its position at the total PC level more than its competitors."
But those looking to purchase a notebook from the organisation might be interested in the Acer Aspire 8942, which has an 18.4-inch screen and comes with a choice of one or two hard drives.
