A new 36.3-megapixel digital camera has been unveiled by Nikon.
The D800 is an FX-format professional D-SLR that utilises 12-channel readout technology along with a high signal-to-noise ratio and 14-bit A/D conversion to produce high quality pictures.
It also features a broad 100 to 6400 ISO range that can be extended up to 25600, the EXPEED 3 photo processing engine and 16-bit image processing for particularly rich tones and colours.
Users will be able to shoot full HD videos and take advantage of uncompressed HDMI output to enable professional-scale editing. The digital camera also includes the Advanced Scene Recognition System and has a start-up time of 0.12 seconds.
A special edition of the camera - the D800E - with a modified optical filter will also be available.
"The combination of the powerful 36.3-megapixel resolution that records detail like never before and the comprehensive video options will captivate photographers and moviemakers of all disciplines," said Kentaro Kusakari, Nikon UK product planning manager.
Nikon also launched its COOLPIX L310 camera last week. The device boasts a 21x wide-angle optical zoom lens and a 14-megapixel sensor.
