PlayStation 3 owners looking to upgrade to PlayTV will be required to pay, according to Sony.
With an update, users will be able to access a number of features ranging from recording shows with the click of a button through the Series Link, to accessing TV listings.
Other features would include a social networking platform called Chat TV, as well as Facebook suggestions and a weekly programme guide.
James Thorpe, PlayStation Network manager wrote on the PS Blog: "The development guys are constantly working hard to add as many new features as possible that have been requested across all markets. The new features in this update represent PlayStation's strong community commitment.
"You will be able to get the software update on PS Store at a reasonable price. A lot of effort went into developing these features and they will make PlayTV a very unique product."
