Samsung unveils external hard drive

Electronics company Samsung has launched a new range of external hard drives, featuring a fast external serial ATA (eSATA) interface and up to 2TB of storage space.

The new STORY Station Plus line-up offers a choice for PC users looking for a back-up solution that provides a combination of high-capacity storage and high-performance interface.

The 3.5in external hard drive can store the data equivalent of 500,000 MP3 music files, 560,000 digital photo images, or 880 hours of high-resolution video.

It also features Samsung's Auto backup feature for data preservation, the SecretZone software for encryption of personal data, and the SafetyKey application for password protection.

Samsung said that the drive will be available in capacities ranging from 1TB to 2TB, boasting an aluminium enclosure offering protection and effective heat dissipation, as well as a chic design.

It will come with a three-year limited warranty, while the 2TB version of the drive will be available with a price a price tag of US$299 (£180.36), the South Korean firm said.

H S Lee, vice president at Samsung Electronics, added: "Samsung new line of high-density solutions with the eSATA interface give users the speed they need for demanding tasks like photo and video editing, plus safely storing multimedia content libraries."
