DO YOUR HOMEWORK WITH THE MEMORY
review by: Anonymous os: Windows XP

I forgot to mention in my above review...
DO YOUR HOMEWORK WITH THE MEMORY you buy, go into the ASUS website and they list all the brands and speeds that this board will accept I initially bought 2X matched 1gb OZR 667mhz Gold edition memory, the board would run fine with one stick but as soon as you inserted the 2nd it didnt like it..when I looked OZR was not on the ASUS recommended list..I now have 2x matched corsair 667mhz XMS2 and the system runs like a dream....

Very good motherboard

This board is by far the best i have ever used, It's incredibly quick, very easy to set up and if your an overclocker its a dream, im using it with 2048mb ddr2 667 mhz corsair memory, athlon 64 3800 AM2, xfx 512mb nvidia 6800xt NOT sli yet and two western digital 250gb harddrives
..windows loads in about 15-20 seconds, file browser opening and picture viewing is instant..i have not built the highest end of systems but ive built for the future in mind and with the AM2 socket I think thats covered. with only 1 graphics card and no overclocking the machine scored 20390 in 3d mark 2001, most games i can now play at full specs including Far Cry and Half Life 2, personally I knock them down a bit to increase frame rate
There are lots of very handy utilitys with the board like bios update, an overclocking utility and the most impresive a utility that lets you slowdown or speed up your system fan..
If you do buy this board I recommend you use a Zalman flower AM2 CPU cooler, at present my CPU has not gone above 35 degrees which I think is very good cooling indeed.
Summing up this is a very stable value for money and relatively future proof board, very easy to install and with a dual core athlon and 2 graphics cards running at 32sli this would be amazingly fast...highly highly recomended and also not important but very well packaged, dont hesitate you wont be disapointed....

Great - But Power Hungry

Lovely mother board.

Either I missed it in the spec or it doesn't say but this board needs a minimum of a 500w power supply, recommended 600w. I'm running it on a 450w and my graphics card is paying the price :( .
No problems with any drivers although i would recomend updating the bios.

Asus truly are the best

I purchased this mother board to move away from the 939 socket amds boards to have a board that can use ddr2 ram. The board is amazing with loads of extras such as the sound beam mic which not only looks good but is very usefull, the board also has wifi, a nice little extra although i stick to using the ethnet port personally.
the over clocking features are usefull and the Bios is user friendly!

The only feature that really irritated me about the board is the ONE ide socket as oppossed to the typical two, so if your thinking of buying this board invest in a sata drive because the ide slot will be used for your dvd writers... etc!!

The board aslo recommmends you use Corsair xms2 which i suggest aswell as i find it stable and have no real problems!

Easy...

Easy install with vista. Note one other reviewer said it is power hungry. Not sure about this as I have 4HDD, 2 optical, floppy, MSI video card (no fan) and this runs a treat in an Antec case. Maybe it is the quality of the power supply, or the graphics card is the straw?
Any way great card with lots of toys such as the microphone and the antenna, but surprising few PCI slots. Great board.

this is an excellent motherboard with a good overclocking facility the wifi is 100% better than my previous usb adapter and the sound max audio is excellent the only problem i had when putting windows on was xp pro sp1 would not load i had to start in safe mode and upgrade to sp2 dont know whether this was because i have used a sata hard drive or the motherboard ? but none the less when coupled with 2 gb of pc6400 ram and an amd 5200+x2 processor makes a super fast system
