Auto Connect really DOES work with encryption!

Windows XPThis is a great device, but as everyone says, the instructions leave out some essential steps!
Here’s my 12-step procedure for painless setup of a new unit. If you have changed any settings, power the unit and push the reset for at least 10 seconds (when you release all lights will go out and return).
1. Make sure you know the IP address, subnet mask, wireless encryption type and password of your existing wireless Router or Access Point.
2. Connect the unit to a computer by ethernet cable.
3. Disable any wireless facility on the computer to avoid confusion in the browser.
4. Set the computer Ethernet LAN TCP/IP address to 192.168.2.100 and subnet 255.255.255.0
5. Open your Internet Browser and in the address box type in 192.168.2.254
6. In the Setup window that should open, click on Basic and Submit (to log on).
7. Click on Security and select the identical encryption method and insert the identical password/key as used on your existing wireless Router or Access Point.
8. Click on Apply Changes
9. Click on Specify IP Address and set the address to the same series as your existing wireless system (ie. make the first 3 figures the same, and the last one different) and set the subnet figures to be identical to that of your existing wireless unit.
10. Click on Apply Changes
11. Move the unit to its new location, power up and press the Auto Connect button. The red flashing light should go off in a few seconds if you are in range.
12. Search for available wireless networks on your laptop – you should not notice any difference in SSID (the Belkin unit mimicks the existing unit) but the signal strength should be improved.
A gerat way to extend your network

Windows XPI purchased one of these a little while ago and i have just bought another. I am using one of its two features to extend my network. It can be used as an access point where you plug an ethernet cable into it and the other end into a computer, or it can be used as a wireless network extender where it amplifies the network signal. I have placed it halfway between the wireless router and the pcs i need the range to cover and the signal is very strong. Like i say, i purchased another one because the first one has been relocated to my friends house, with 5 houses in between (for gaming) and it can still acveive 54mbps!
The only problem i had in setting it up was getting the network security settings onto it. My wireless network has encryption and MAC address filtering, so i have to plug the extender into a laptop using the ethernet cable to alter the its settings. After that, its all hunky dory!

Windows XPDepite what the box and others may say, this product IS perfectly compatible with routers of makes other than Belkin. It is very easy to configure if you take the time to understand it first - and ignore the included instructions! Advice: download the more detailed manual from:

Ignore the part about installing the Setup Wizard program - proceed immediately on to the web-based management section. The best way, as others have said, is to connect it directly to your computer first and set it up using the web, then once it is all set up connect it to the router instead. You will need to change your TCP/IP settings to match those of the Access Point but DON'T FRET: this is all explained in the manual!
During the setup you will be asked to change the Access Point's IP address to one in the range of your router. After you do this you will not be able to access the web-based management using the old IP address that it says in the manual. You will, of course, have to use the new one you just chose. When you do, it will say that another user is logged in - that's the old you! Just click on logout and then log back in.
The rest is VERY simple and straight forward and shouldn't take very long at all. I'm by no means an expert but had it up and running in five minutes.
Overall, a very easy-to-use and reliable product. Buy it.

Windows XPJust got it today, i must say its a MASSIVE improvment over my other belkin access point FSD7130. It has a detachable attenna so you homebrewers can make your own canttennas etc. It is VERY small, and light. Negatives about it are the OEM transformer pack that is provided, shame they can't provide the other type where you plug a power cable into the transformer, allows more length of cable. Also, the unit will get a little hot which is expected of a radio transmitter, so good ventalation is recommended.
I can get 100% all over my house with my laptop and to the back of my garden, I havent tried any further yet, the FSD7130 went 3/4 houses up my road.
I am unsure of what OS this has because I am unable to nmap it for OS info because it turns on what seems a port scan protection. I do know that the FSD7130 was running Linux (Kernal 2.4 something).
Supported Security:
WPA, WPA (radius) WPA2, 64bit WEP, 128bit WEP and MAC Address Control.
All in all a VERY good unit. My previous AP wasn't erased by a power cut or spike, this one wont too I hope. (Belkin routers/ap have been known to erase them selfs in a powercut or power spike).

Windows XPi baught one of these 5 months ago to use purely as a access point i have it oper ating on a home network including 4 pc 1 mini server a laptop and 1 portable wireless device NONE OF WHICH ARE BELKIN all the computers were wired into a small room in the house i plugged the access point into the switch and began to uplaod the software on the laptop i assigned the access point and (free patch cable)it beagn to work i put the WPA security feature on and then i baught 2 wireless belkin recivers pluged 1 into the server and one into a desktop and activated the wireless on the laptop i have no problems in speed it is 54mbps and signal excelent it works just the same as a router the computers could connect and print just the same without changing settings and the signal worked in the outhouse at poor signal (200metres away) so i purchased another to use as a range extender ant i can walk allover now with perfect signal that is 4 devices running of a access point i was amazed it works down the road at my freinds house aswell DEAD CHUFFED i love these please buy them i recomend buying i higher quality cable for the job too

5. Set the computer Ethernet LAN TCP/IP address to 192.168.2.100 and subnet 255.255.255.0

7. In the Setup window that should open, click on Basic and Submit (to log on).
8. Click on Security and select the identical encryption method and insert the identical password/key as used on your existing wireless Router or Access Point. In my case it was WEP 64 and the key was c3be4661d5. So in the setup page key 1 was c3 be 46 61 d5.
9. Click on Apply Changes
10. Click on Specify IP Address and set the address to the same series as your existing wireless system (i.e. make the first 3 figures the same, and the last one different) and set the subnet figures to be identical to that of your existing wireless unit. I used 192.168.1.175.
11. Click on Apply Changes

Windows XPBelkin ! Heh - I had this product for over 6 monhs now and have not have to power cycle once, which for a wireless product is, in my experience, unique. I was dubious at first being a loyal D-link buyer, who appear to have lost their way re. build quality and reliability of late, so I was tempted by the low price.
It works for me with a 4 different USB NIC vendors.
