Cool - Look Mom! No Wires!
os:
Windows XPIt does what it says on the tin. Although when people say that Hauppauge are rubbish at their UI, they are right! It's not the most intuitive interface, but once you've worked it out, you can get around OK.
The reason why you would want to buy this though is to stream content to your telly - and it does that. It's quick to set-up.
For some reason the My Videos folder doesn't recognise it has videos in it - it's probably more me than it - but i've worked out where to put stuff and for it to find the videos.
It doesn't take up the full screen which is a little frustrating. Again, I expect it's more me than it... that said, i'm sure Hauppauge could make it easier for people like me to better work it out.
Happy with my purchase. Pity ebuyer ran out of the other component I wanted to make my home PC in to a whizzy PVR wirelessly connected to my telly. But i'll get there.
EBuyer Shipping these with NON-UK Power Supplies!
Good product and price, but I have bought two of these now from EBuyer in the last month and both have been sent with missing or Non-UK power supplies! Ebuyer seem to have a bad batch at the moment, so I would recommend checking it with them before purchasing. I had to contact Hauppauge directly to get a UK power supply for the first MVP.
Great Product and Excellent Value at this price!
os:
Windows XPEasy to setup, and video streaming performs superbly. Wireless loses connectivity occasionally (probably due to environmental factors) and causes the box to reboot, but it only interrupts play for a few seconds.
The only bad points - it doesn't seem to do true 16:9 widescreen output, but just stretches 4:3. Also, I have bought two recently from Ebuyer and they were both sent with missing or Non-UK power supplies. I would recommend checking this with EBuyer before buying as they appear to have a bad batch at the moment.
Good product
os:
Windows XPyou can get full PVR software for free at www.gbpvr.com, runs on top of any windows OS.
I used this free software for years despite owning a Windows Media Centre PC (2005 edition) which is not as good.
GB Pvr runs on any PC and is great and is already fully set up to use this device except with a much better interface - try it out!
Disappointing
os:
Not ApplicableThe software is poor. I've read that it is possible to replace it, but this is almost certainly warranty-breaking.
You will also need a reasonable modern PC to stream video without it stuttering.
Great concept, poorly executed.
Question about formats?
The blurb says it can stream mpgs and divx files, but the obvious question is can it manage .wmv format files?
Router Problem
os:
Windows XPCannot get this to work with either BT Home Hub or Edimax router without turning WEP encryption security off (not much good then!). Once encryption turned off works fine. Plenty of similar problems posted on forums. Sent e-mail to Hauppauge Support but no response yet.
Don`t like the UI? Replace it!
