Cheap And Legal
review by: Mark Reddingrating:

Bottom line is: Why would you go and pay £250 for this from a major high street retailer when you can get this perfectly legal copy for your home build for a little over £50?

OEM version means no instruction book, but it's so easy to install. I managed it without any help by just following the prompts, and it was my first attempt at installing Windows.

Don't throw your money away - if you want to be legal, get this version.

OEM XP Home Review / Confusion

Ok,Great Operating System
If you dont dabble with your system and arnt professionally minded, professional is not needed, and is actually slower.

OEM, Means it is NOT Retail, and simply means it is intended to be supplied with a new system

Same as supplied with most major manufacturers machines.

Is it locked to a particular machine, in part that is true, and so it is with retail copies. If you build a new machine and try to install or make major alterations to your current one, XP will complain. It does take into account your system specs, and should there be a major deviation, motherboard, CPU etc, it considers the possibility that it has been installed on another machine.

So, for example, you have a major manufacturer machine, the mobo dies. You replace it and XP will complain - simply ring up and explain that there has been an upgrade, failure etc and Microsoft will supply a new activation code. I had to do this recently with a HP machine.

So in 6 months time you upgrade, say a new motherboard, hence likely new graphics and memory, CPU, is your XP disc a coaster - NO. Same story, ring them and tell them. Saying that, it doesnt harm to be vague. Simply, you have upgraded as your old mobo was trash and old kit possibly incompatible.

But in short, Both Retail and OEM versions will detect any major deviation in a system or install on a new system. Neither can be used on more than one machine unless you purchase a license to do so, and if you do upgrade, simply ring them and they supply a new sctivation key.

Hope this Helps

This is OEM! BUT WHY THE BAD REVIEWS FELLA'S!

Ok, People seem to be getting the wrong Idea's about this software! Indeed it is OEM but the only thing this means is you can only install on one pc and one pc only! But hey, its less than £60 with a lifetime of updates.

Next, if your system does blow up all you have to do is re-install the system and phone the number when promted. The 1st question they will ask is "Are you installing this on more than 1 PC?" OBVIOUSLY SAY NO! They will then supply you with a new activation code and your away!

There probably is a limit on how many times you can do this but there must be something seriously wrong if you smeg two motherboards! You maybe shouldnt be building systems... lol!

I have built lots of systems over the last couple of years and no matter what other software you put on GENUINE operating systems are a must have, wether a budget PC or not! Hope this helps!

Just like to say i built my machine and installed this no problem without the {opk] kit all this is as far as im led to believe is a way for big manufacturers to add in their logos and phone numbers ect etc.Just to clarify it will install without the kit and you just simply use the disc as the reload cd as well couldnt be any easier than that.

Ghost
review by: Anonymous os: Windows Vista

Hi Guys, jst looking at the reviews, just lyk to say that before i do have a crash, i normally install norton ghost straight after my XP installation, so when i recover XP, even if its OEM version, it still genuine and licensed when i run the ghost tool. Obviously, i dont use Windows XP now, but still the same, i have done this with many OS'S including Vista. It works and saves time having to phone Microsoft. Coz when you buy a new pc, you normally have a recovery disk, and the system preinstalled from the factory is OEM version. Thanks

Ebuyer delivered this fine on time.

This is the second XP OEM I have had from them. the first one installed fine and activated without problems. That was about 2 years back.

This version is packed in a MS sealed brown box with the licence conditions on the outside. This says you have to preinstall using OPK, which is a MS system builders preinstallation kit.

I have held back from breaking the seals because I want to install it normally on my self-built machine.

Can anyone confirm that this actual version will install normally and then activate?

This is brilliant, a full version of windows xp complete with coa for a fraction of the retail price, the is OEM so this is only meant to be installed on one machine, so its ideal if you build systems or have just purchased a new one,

and to be honest xp is better than vista at the moment as vista still has a lot of compatabilty issues and lack of drivers for many of the things you own. which is why micrsoft offer a downgrade from vista to xp.

so if your looking for a opertaing system, then this is the one to go for atleast until vista is more reliable
