Medusa 5.1 Home Edition Headset Review

A superb set of Headphones! Very comfortable and not as bulky or weighty as you might expect considering the number of speaker units enclosed in each ear piece. Im using these with a Blaster Live! 5.1 card in my PC, the sound separation is quite astonishing considering how close together the speakers must be to each other inside, although not quite as good as a speaker setup.
The Home System comes with a controller/distribution box which is powered and has a small power supply. It all comes with an assortment of leads to connect it up. Make sure you DON'T tick the digital output only box in the sound card speaker set up when you set it to 5.1 speakers setting and don't use the headphone setting either, as this is for normal stereo headphones. Your speaker system now connects to outputs on the control box, there are sockets (and longer leads) provided to connect up to a second 5.1 source such as a DVD player.
The headphones have a multicore connector which plugs into the front of the unit and the socket is nicely illuminated by a blue LED. Conversion leads are also provided that the multicore plug fits into and it has the four Jack Plugs on the other end, thus effectively making it the same as the SL-8793 version. When using speakers the control box has to be powered up to provide the path through. The microphone is excellent, good quality, fully adjustable, can be moved up out of the way or even unplugged and taken off the headset. I am pleased I opted for this setup rather than the SL-8793 Pro Gamer version (which is basically the same set of headphones without the control box) as I would be constantly having to pull out my PC and unplugging my Creative 4.1 speakers to plug the headphones in. I can whole heartedly recommend these Headphones. I dont think you would be disappointed. This is aquality product!

Had mine over 3 months now & they are quality. If you want 5.1 headphones & already have 5.1 speakers, these are the ones for you. A simple push of a button on the control box & it swaps between the two. No unplugging connectors etc. Sound is excellent for both games, movies and music.

Buyers please be aware when purchasing this item. Mention on item description regards with the detachable microphone. Actually it does not. NO DETACHABLE MICROPHONE.

I have confirm this with Speed Link directly about it. Stated that all new Medusa 5.1 headset does not come with detachable microphone. Hope this will help anyone in making a buying decision.

Ordered on Friday, and opted for super saver delivery. Arrived on Monday, so a great service from ebuyer once again!

This set is a pleasure to receive, even opening them up is a joy with the silky lined box and red ribbon.

So easy to set up, with plentiful cables and a plug adaptor (they're from Germany, so a 2 to 3 pin adaptor is provided). Had it all set up and running alongside my 5.1 speakers within about 15 minutes. Tested with CS:S, Call of Duty 4 and the taxi scene from Die Hard With A Vengeance, and all sound superb.

I did also like that the volume control on the amp box only controls the headset, so when you switch back to your speakers, the will not have been adjusted volume-wise.

Great stuff, 5/5!
