Seriously impressed!
operating system:
Not ApplicableDisappointed at having a brand new set of Creative Gigaworks T20s fail after just 2hrs of use, I decided to give these a try. I'm so glad I did!
I have already owned a set of Z680s and now a set of 5500s, both of which have proven that Logitech know what they're doing when it comes to speakers. These Z-10s are no exception!
The sound quality is simply superb, as are the touch sensitive buttons used to control these speakers. The supplied drivers/software is years out of date and full of bugs. Download the recent set from logitech.com and all the issues I initially experienced have disappeared (freezing in Vista, slow response on buttons etc).
Don't get me wrong, the Gigaworks did sound great (seriously, very VERY good) but the build quality didn't match that of a 10yr old set of Creative/Cambridge SW320's which are still working perfectly today.
These speakers, however, are in a league of their own. I can hear sounds in favourite songs that I didn't know existed.
I questioned if it was worth spending that bit extra to have these instead of the T20s... now I find myself questioning how they can build such speakers for just £75!
eBuyer/CityLink service spot on (again)
Warmed to it eventually
operating system:
Not ApplicableFirst of all, the sound quality is excellent. I'm hearing things in tracks that I've simply never noticed before. Plus, the bass is more than adequate.
Now for the long and detailed bit. As mentioned in another review of this product, if you want to use the LCD controls, this set of speakers needs to run via its own audio playback device within Windows, thus bypassing your sound card's default one. This means that if you have a sound card, the audio will not be output through it anymore. Which in turn means that if you use your sound card for MIDI, for example, you won't hear it by default.
...that is, unless you use the supplied audio cable to connect from your sound card into the speakers. You then need to marry up the volume outputs of the speakers and your sound card so the sound card's output reaches your ears at about the same level as standard audio.
The most logical solution to all of this would of course be to switch the system audio output back to the sound card and route everything through there. However, if you do that, you don't get full control of the volume via the speakers' touch-sensitive controls (more on them later) - you get the volume the speakers' audio output device is set to in windows, plus the volume of your sound card's device. So it is capped to a maximum. That's assuming the Windows volume control interface is set to your sound card, NOT the speakers' proprietary device (it hooks into its own device's volume control, not any others).
In the end, I managed to tweak everything so MIDI playback produced by my sound card is routed into the speakers via the green audio cable and standard audio is routed via the USB cable. What's more, I get full control of the volume via the speakers' interface. It sounds like a simple solution, but I did have to mess around a bit until I was satisfied.
Now, the touch-sensitive controls. They seem like a bit of a gimmick, but once you get used to them, they're actually quite nice. Some of the buttons are a bit odd - the one used to adjust treble/bass levels needs to be touched just below where you'd expect in order for it to work - but that's a minor quibble. No pause/skip controls for Winamp, but they do seem to work in Media Player, so I guess that's something.
Overall, a great piece of kit, provided you're willing to spend time tweaking if you have any special requirements.
8th wonder of the world
operating system:
Not ApplicableThese are probably the best 2.0 speakers you can buy.
I previously owned some slightly cheaper Creative T20s, and had to return the first set due to a total failure of the tweeters. The second set of T20s made a "kettle boiling in the distance" interference noise when no sound is played through them (not everyone's ears pick it up, it's a very high frequency) It was due to poor quality of components/shielding of components. Apparently ALL T20s produce that sound. Google it and you find other people giving up on them because of that same issue- so it isn't an insignificant problem by any means. Then... I nearly went for Creative T40s, before I read quite a few people were, get this: *having to reattach the wires connecting the drivers themselves on arrival*. No thanks, I'm not risking that. Creative really need to stop hiring trained monkeys to put their premium 2.0 speakers together.
But I digress. On to the Logitech Z10s
Truly awesome bass. Very powerful tweeters. The speakers are heavy, which is a good indicator there's something decent "under the bonnet." They get loud without distorting.
The input jacks (both USB and 3.5mm midiplug) are both on the right speaker, but the power cable is wired to *the left speaker*. So the whole system is balanced. That makes a refreshing change from all other 2.0 speakers I've used before and it shows some thought actually went into their design.
The LCD display:
...is awesome. I really like it, I thought it might've been a gimmick but it's not. It fits the artist, song title, and a song progress scroll bar all in at the same time, scrolling long names where necessary- getting the info from the PC via the USB connection (the sound also goes via USB, bypassing the interference soundcards sometimes produce.) You'll probably want to crank the LCD brightness up to maximum and disable all other applets apart from "Logitech media display" using the included LCD manager software. I find the LCD useful as you don't want to have to keep opening up WMP/iTunes etc to see song info, you want it there in front of you
My flatmate came into my room yesterday and said "What subwoofer are you using?"
That says it all really :D
Logitech Z-10 Stereo Speakers
operating system:
Windows XPIf you're looking for something that will show off your MP3 collection at its best, you'll be hard pressed to better these speakers. The 30W Bi Amp design produces a wonderfully clear and warm sound that fills a room.
Considering they are a 2.0 (no sub woofer) the bass produced is ample and tight. The midrange and treble are delivered with effortless precision making any track a joy to listen to.
They also look the part, the interface is good - it works and doesnt detract from the quality of the units. The finish is nice, and given that you dont have actually have to touch the buttons you can avoid smears on the lovelly black gloss finish. Logitech were thoughful enough to provide a cloth to clean them with.
Like any good speaker, they are a solid build. If your music has detial, these will be great for you. If you like mega bass, get something with a subwoofer, otherwise these are a nice sophisitcated product. They sing not shout. Coupled with an Ipod or any decent source they'd make a decent replacement for a good hifi.

Just superb - buy them!!!
operating system:
Windows XPBought these to replace an old 5.1 setup. I worried whether I should have bought something with a sub but I was pleasantly surprised with the quality bass delivered by these speakers. In fact all of the sound is nicely detailed and well balanced. Sure, if you want chair shaking bass for hardcore gaming then these are not the ideal choice but for music they deliver in spades!
I use them attached to my desktop PC for listening to music via iTunes and playing the odd game. For these purposes they are superb.
Fab little things.
operating system:
Windows VistaGot a set of these today, was a little worried about spending so much money on two speakers but when for it anyway, as the reviews seemed good. These things are HEAVY! which is only a good sign. The sound quality is fantastic and puts my old Creative 5.1 system to shame. I was a little worried about USB Audio too, but these speakers have really proven themselves and I'm completely sold!
These aren't 'touch screen' but rather have touch sensitive buttons. They're very nice and quite responsive. Another little nice thing I found when firing up Mercenaries 2 is the LCD display acts the same as the G15 Keyboard from Logitech. The screen will display bit of info about the game like Ammo, grenades and health. During loading screens the game logo is displayed, it's a nice little touch to these fantastic speakers :) Highly reccomend.
Wow!
operating system:
Windows XPThese things ROCK!
Replaced my Creative Labs 2.1 sub-woofer system with these little whoppers... and they are great!
Easy to set up... decent size too... but dont take up too much room on the desktop... but beware... they are LOUD!
Great tonal response and thumping bass.. that does'nt have her-indoors shouting up at me to "Turn the bass down!" like she did with the Sub unit! Zzzzzz...
The LCD feature with the clock and date is a nice touch when the speakers are on stand by... and the touch control on the front works great too, instead of fiddling about with the mouse to higher or lower the volume of your music.
All in all... very pleased indeed!
Another stormer from Ebuyer.com!!
Quality
WoW!!!
absolutely blown away with these speakers. Crisp depth accurate. brings back an emotional enjoyment I lost after getting rid of a quality hifi system some years ago.
well worth reccomending.
