Excellent

os: Windows XP

I just received my unit today and have to say it is excellent in every way. Very affordable, good build quality, slimline with a good see-through finish (much more transparent than pictured).

I will go ahead and give it the 5 stars it deserves because i have a XD card, SD and MS Pro so three slots out of three are working :)

My unit didn't come with a driver CD so maybe this is true of all new units that eBuyer stocks - you don't need it anyway.

I noticed Keith said in his review that you could not stop each allocated drive letter individually. On my XP system, i can safely remove all associated drive letters - just left-click once on the little icon and the options bar will pop-up. You can also remove drive letters from slots that you won't be using my right-clicking the 'My Computer' icon and then clicking 'Manage', 'Disk Management'. From there you can change drive letters and select 'Remove'.

Closing the review: excellent service and price from eBuyer and good delivery from City Link!

Great card reader

Used only with a 2MB CF card - little card from a camera. No problems at all. The card only goes about half way into the reader.

CF cards work fine. Good value

I mainly use CF cards, so I haven't tried the other slots. The case has legends and leds for SM/XD, SD/MMC, MS/MSPRO, CF/MD, Power. All four slots are on the front leading edge with a small USB connector on the side. Supplied with the unit is a 0.6m USB cable. Although a small CD was provided, I didn't need to use it as my OS (SuSE 9.3 & SuSE 10.2) recognised it straight away.
I would give it top marks if I were able to test all the sockets. But as I don't have other mem sticks, I'll give it a qualified 4 stars

USB 2.0 ALL IN 1 CARD READER / WRITER

os: Windows ME

A very neat little device. It works fine with Windows ME with a USB 1.1 interface as well as with Windows XP Pro using USB 2.0. In neither case did I need to use the small driver CD supplied.

I only use Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro and Memory Stick Pro Duo and it works fine will all of them, including the 4Gb card. My only critisism would be that card insertion is not exactly positive and I often wonder if I have inserted it properly. This may not apply to other card types.

It recognises each card slot as a different drive (E: thru H: in my case) even if there is no card inserted. This means that if you want to remove the device from the PC you have to stop all 4 drives individually - you cannot stop them as a group, but I guess this is true of all such devices and not just this one.

great little reader, but no mini-sd slot...

this thing is SMALL! a lot smaller than it looks in the pictures... (it's 7cm x 4cm x 1cm approx)

worked no problem on my linux pc, just plugged it in - no issues.

the only complaint i have, is this - one of the reasons i chose this card-reader over others, is because the description says it reads mini-sd... this is unfortunately only true if you have a mini-sd-to-"full"-sd adaptor... there is no slot that will take a mini-sd directly. this means i will have to purchase an additional adaptor to use my mini-sd card with this reader. not a huge deal in itself, but if i'd known, i probably would have chosen a different reader, as i find the "lock" slider on those mini-sd adaptors to be very fragile, and often break off when inserting, ususally in the "lock" position, rendering them next to useless, so i really wanted a reader with a "real" mini-sd slot.

that complaint aside, if the mini-sd issue is not important to you, you can't go wrong with this reader - it's a little cracker :)

works perfectly with "full-size" sd, sony memory stick pro duo (not tested with xd yet, but will when i get home).

Xd compatability

os: Windows Vista

I bought this item, after it appeared on the "related items" when I bought a camera and xd card. I wanted to be able to transfer pictures without having to plug the camera in, and felt this would be a useful device (as I also have SD and CF cards).

When I opened the package I tried to insert the XD card into the slot, and it seemed the slot was approximately 1 or 2mm too narrow for the card.

I thought the internal slot may have been mis-aligned, so I requested a replacement. The replacement also had the same defect, as though the slot is too small for the card.

Other card types and slots were not tried.

This was the card I tried it with:

Other than that, I like the design, size and portability.

Hiya,

Does anyone know if this supports SD Cards over 1GB in size? My current one fails with my 2GB card. :(

Cheers
