Not ApplicableAll,
Please note that many of the comments posted about the Elonex Artisan LX case (also available on ebuyer) apply to this (only real differences between the two are the addition of a volume control and the lack of (or presence of - if you are lucky) internal video on the Deluxe case).
A useful thread is the one listed on the LX page:
http://forums.ebuyer.com/showthread.php?t=665
Lists some excellent info about hardware which will /won't work plus plenty of other useful info which really helped me (same Motherboard in both chassis models as far as I can make out).
I have an Artisan Delux and I can tell you that the Graphics card (PCI Express) will not only need to be low profile BUT also have a low profile (half height) bracket. Some low profile cards come with full height fixing brackets.....don't get caught out guys.
Happy building!!!
Difference between Deluxe and non Deluxe
Does anybody know what the differences are between this version and the non Deluxe model? Is it just the volume control?
Thanks.
REPLY:
Yes the difference is the control knob on the front.
Excellent case

Windows XPIf you're looking for a living room friendly PC this is an excellent choice. I bought the non-volume control version some time ago and I've been very happy with it. This is probably one of the best and most versatile "Media Centre" cases you can buy, and probably one of the best priced. There are many good points about this case that puts it above others and I will list a few...
1. Package / aesthetics - Looks great in the lounge, very low proffile (will fit most cabinets, but quite deep), about the width of a VCR, and a very nice "piano black" finish
2. Tons of front panel I/O tucked behind discreet flaps e.g. 7 media card slots, 2 usb, firewire and audio.
3. Load of i/o on the back to suit most AV packages, e.g. surround sound on 3x 3.5mm jacks, digital audio spdif output, stereo audio in and out on phono.
4. Numerous card slot for a low profile package, this is usually an issue for "lifestyle" cases
5. Conventional ATX motherboard means sourcing hardware not too tricky (vs. MicroATX and BTX systems)
6. Extremely quite due to bespoke power supply and processor fan arrangements
I could probably mention a few other factors but they are the biggies for me. Two relatively small negatives tho:
1. Will get very hot if ventilation is lacking (eg in an enclosed AV cabinet)
2. Elonex have gone belly up so I don't know what warrenty supprt is like...

Superb

Not ApplicableThis case is fantastic quality...don't hesitate!
I upgraded from a noisy and unreliable aopen EA65 cube and haven't looked back.
This took me about 1 hour to install, build quality is very good, and it is a solid, attractive case. My wife loves the DVD looks! Actually looks better than the picture...
Being a proper media case case, it is very quiet (silent), you don't need a media center remote receiver hanging off, and it has a VFD display that you can program (my says Vista when in windows) and then it displays what you are watching as well as a load of other stuff. Only problem is that it does not support dual core, but you can build a high quality media center on a tight budget using this case. Highly recommended!
No onboard graphics for me, but the motherboard was dead also!
Lastweek the description stated that it had onboard 128mb graphics but the one I got didn't so I am presuming that the model with the volume control doesn't have onboard graphics.
Mine however seemed to have a dead motherboard unless it was the CPU but thats very rare so hopefull the replacement should work fine.
Very nicely built and designed case which will look great in a living room!
I ordered the following parts minus a HD as I already had one;
Kingston 512MB DDR PC3200 400MHz CL3 Memory Module- 49294
Intel Pentium 541 3.2Ghz Skt 775 Fsb800 1mb Cache EMT 64 Retail- 93128
Hauppauge WinTV Nova-T 500 Dual digital DVB-T PCI TV Tuner card- 113946
NEC AD-5170A-0B 18xDVDB1RW/RAM DL Black - Bare Drive- 117543
I ordered a low profile graphics card from a well known auction site an ATI X600SE 128mb with DVA.
Grab one while you can!! Very good value
First impression
operating system:
Not ApplicableI have only bought the deluxe chassis so far - I haven't buit it. I wanted to investigate a mobo transplant to give core 2 duo support.
It has arrived with a FIC P4M-915G/PD1 mobo. It looks pretty good, but does not support dual-core and has no VGA.
EXPANSION SLOTS
As std the mobo has a PCI-Express low-profile slot for a graphics card and 3 PCI slots. The first PCI is shared with the PCI-Express slot, the second is available for a low-profile PCI card and the third is taken with a riser card that provides 2 full height PCI slots (horizontal).
CHASSIS CONNECTIONS
The thing I wanted to understand before building this out was what connections to the chassis facilities it has - so I could figure out the best replacement mobo.
The rear panel has stereo phono plugs for in and out. These connect to sound-card style 4-pin connectors on the mobo. They are labeled AUX_IN and CD_IN on the mobo, so I'm not sure if there is truly a line out there! Also on the rear is a Firewire port that just connects to a std mobo header for firewire - a 2 row x 5 pin IDC type plug. There are 2 3.5 mm jack plugs for connecting the included external IR LED's to for IR blaster. These connect directly to the front panel of the chassis. Finally the rear panel has SPDIF out on COAX and optical. It is connected to the motherboard header by a 3-pin IDC plug. It is nice to have the optical converter built in.
The front panel contains a flourescent type display, the famous volume control, a card reader behind a flap, front audio connectors, and some play/pause/rewind press buttons.
In total the front panel needs 4 x 4pin USB connections on the motherboard. These appear to be 2 front mounted USB connectors, 1x memory card and a further connection for the display/control/IR function.
There is also a front panel connector used on the mobo - this is same type of connector with 2 rows of 5 pins. A similar connector provides front panel audio connections. There is also a firewire port through to the front.
This is all based on observation - I have not built this system up yet. I hope this is useful.
BTW you may have gathered from other reviews that this is a top quality piece of kit, and is worth it's price just for the chassis as it has so many features built in and includes a huge heatsink.
Cracking!
operating system:
Not ApplicableThis is great, so happy I can knock up a media centre on a decent budget. Great looker!
Thanks
Optical drive
Will this case take a standard 5.25" optical drive?
Optical drive
Any standard full size PC optical drive with either IDE or SATA connection will fit. More compact in depth drives leave more room for air to circulate.
As the case has a flap for the optical drive any colour would do but a black facia & tray would look better when open.
A good looker
operating system:
Not ApplicableThis case looks the business! It is the size of an old VCR, but does look quite cool in the black gloss finish.
The only problems are:
1. limited expandability - one HDD and one Optical drive only
2. limited number of power supply cables
3. volume knob on the front looks good, but doesn't seem to want to go back on properly after removal
4. stange airflow-guide-thing that, to be honest, looks a bit dangerous
Howver, don't let any of this put you off - it is a cracking looking case.
