The Truth and all the advice i can give
operating system:
OtherOk first off OEM means its tied to your motherboard, as long as you dont change that you can activate on your pc as many times just like xp. The software checks key components and makes a code, if you change too many items it will ask you to phone up but you can reactivate.
There is no differnce between any of the discs supplied its the key you enter that determins what features yoiu get.
oem version contains all the features of the retail just no manuals etc. (although it comes with a good install guide)
AND YOU DO NOT NEED A SYSTEM BUILDER ID NOR ARE YOU ASKED FOR ANY SUCH CODE THATS COMPLETE RUBBISH
INSTALL
install is easy but your best bet is to make sure you backup your photos etc or move them to a second hard drive or partition.
the best install is a fresh one which is not done from xp. you will loose your xp install but will have a more stable operating system. change your settings in bios to boot from cd dvd and enter disk and reboot.
WHen asked where to install make sure you click advance options and format drive the proceed.
UNTICK activate when start up so that if it goes wrong and you reinstall in the first 30 days you have no activation hassles.
The install takes about twenty minutes.
When started for the first time you will need to activate aero interface via PERSONALIZE and select aero if aviliable to you, then its buisness as usuall.
Problems
Many people report stuttering audio, and the soloution is easy.
Goto control panel then SOUND
right click on your soundcard and click properties.
click on the enhancements tab and click disable all enhancements (there pointless anyway) and the stuttering will stop.
ANTIVIRUS
ok so far i have tried AVG which has problems starting every so often, Kaspersky delays windows startup by 1 min (as informed by the performance tool) and the best one so far is avast and its free.
IE7 has probvlems registering flash so firefox is a must.
Spybot adware nero and roxio all work fine as does newsleecher and any that have problems will have patches.
Anyways go for it its amazing
Clarification.
operating system:
Not ApplicableThis is an excellent peice of software, the best windows to date. I bought and received the next day, installed and i'm still going now. No driver issues what so ever, still BETA graphics drivers but hopes for these to become official soon. It looks great and runs great and is extreamly smooth.
Now to clarify:
If you buy the OEM version (this version) you will be able to re-install it as many times as you want providing you don't change the motherboard as this is counted as 'a change of PC'.
You do not have to buy this with any hardware. You can buy it as it is.
OEM version
It is not true that you can only install it once and activate once.
OEM means it is active for that piece of hardware in vista's case your PC, the code is locked to your motherboard, so if motherboard goes wrong you activation and license so your copy of vista are invalid.
However if your motherboard is replaced due to a malfunction by the OEM /or you, you tell microsoft motherboard failed and had to be replaced and it should be reactivated for you.
Vista Manual for OEM
We all know that the oem version only comes with a quick start guide so heres the link to the
manual from microsoft for the ppl with the oem version

What OEM means
OEM ( Orignal Equipment Manufacture ) Is meant to be used by System Builders, as such, expect no Support from Microsoft other than updates. Some software suppliers send hardware to satisfy the System Builder bit. The licence and key come with the software. and is to be affixes to the new PC If you are using XP currently it is not worth upgrading yet, not enough software or drivers available at present.
Vista OEM
Firstly under microsofts new licence agreement you no longer need to buy hardware with OEM products.
Secondly it will activate many times on the same PC you are not allowed to reinstall it on any new PC you may buy in the future.
Best version to get!
operating system:
Not ApplicableI would really recommend this edition, it comes with all the 3d stuff and media center. the only things you miss off compared to ultimate is the encription, backup and advanced networking... do you really need this? if not, then this is definatly for you... Dont worry about not getting the box, its still legit and the same software. for the price, you can't argue. Just buy some "Essential Hardware" with it... I.E. Modem, Memory etc...
Un-Transferable!!
Hi guys
after a long conversation with Microsoft on the phone i can now bring you the facts of Vista OEM.
basically in a nutshell the Licence is owned by the PC rather than the individual so the Licence Key ties itself to your Motherboard.
you also have to be a Microsoft Registered System Builder in order to be able to purchase this disk, i was told you would be asked for your System Builder ID on install of this product.
in the circumstance the motherboard dies or is damaged, the software dies with it. is the info i was given.
i was told i would NOT be able to re-activate my OEM version on a replacement Motherboard.
hope this helps any 1 thats un-sure
Windows Vista
When they say "system builder" it means this should be installed on a new system (like Dell or HP do).
However, just like XP, you can buy this for your own PC. Just be aware that this is locked to your motherboard so you can't use this on a new computer you buy 2 years down the line. You'll have to another copy.
Also, you DON'T need to buy any hardware with it and you CAN install it more than once on the same computer. If you try and use this on another computer it won't activate.
hope that clears things up.
Vista
OEM - no manuals etc or phone support. Everything else the same as the retail version.
Activation the same as XP, phone call to Microsoft will allow you move it if your board dies.
Good driver support. Huge online database via windows update.
Rock solid OS. All games that ran on XP run on Vista.
Windows mail replaces Outlook/Outlook Express and imports messages/addresses and accounts.
Excellent price. This will also go some way to address piracy.
NB. Make sure you have a full back up before installing.
PS. Stop asking silly questions, if you do not know how to dual boot a system or load drivers in compatability mode, buy the retail copy so you can phone Bill and ask him... You should not be buying OEM.
