Installed this 64 bit version on my ASUS A8R32-MVP Deluxe X2 4800 crossfire based computer. It installed itself first time, recognised my Raid 0 didn't ask for drivers, even the notorious ULI M1575 drivers were all found automatically. I only had to manually download and install the latest ATI Vista crossfire drivers and go to the Realtek website for their HD Vista drivers, everything is working fine and looks fantastic. I was dubious about the 64 bit version after once trying XP64, but this was a much more pleasurable experience, highly recommended.

Just to answer the confusion among these comments, this is a full 'original equipment manufacturer' copy of vista. It is a single dvd accompanied by a single licence for vista and is only for those who have built their own system.

Don't be afraid of 64bit computing!
review by: Joseph Frostick os: Windows XP

Because this is an OEM, you'll be building a new PC to go with it so it's much easier to make sure everything has a proper driver because you can do it while you're shopping for parts :)

Also, thanks ebuyer for quick delivery.

os: Windows Vista

A good looking OS with some nice new features.

The best thing about Windows Vista is the new Start Menu (Or Windows Menu). The little box just above the Windows logo that you can enter the name of what you're looking for is very much like Spotlight in OS X and works very well. It makes it easy to get those apps you use all the time (like Word or Calculator etc) but also makes it easy to get those apps you may not use as often like Event Viewer for example.

The sidebar doesn't really do anything for me, I like Dashboard on OS X because you can have it when you want it but don't have to look at those little memory zapping gadgets until you need them. Perhaps this is a feature that you can turn on in Vista, maybe I've just not found it yet. However for my tastes, I've just turned the side-bar off for now.

There are a couple of things that have been moved, or require more clicks to get to than was needed in Windows XP (Device manager for example) however that search box just above the Windows logo I was speaking about earlier almost completely negates using the mouse when looking for applications anyway - so not really a biggie.

I love the button that allows you to see all open windows at once - think that is a very nice touch, yes I know it's available in OS X as well - but this is the first time I've seen it in Windows.

IE & is great as people with legit copies of XP will probably already know, as is the latest version of Media Player.

Now for the bad things...

My newly purchased copy of Nero does not work with Vista. This is not such a big deal, however the fact that I can't get McAfee VirusScan Plus 2007 to install successfully under Vista is a big problem for me. I'm not especially pleased about the thought of having to purchase another virus scanner, but then I'm less happy about the thought of running Windows without a virus scanner! I'm hoping McAfee can help me out with this (I'll update ya'll if/when I get this sorted).

I think there are some great new features to Vista and I think there is a lot more eye candy than in XP. My only gripe would be that some applications are not yet supported in Vista but this is to be expected from a new OS I guess.

os: Windows Vista

finally the new windows vista has been realeased. i bought this on the day it came out and i have to say i wasnt dissapointed as i installed it everything went smoothly. then i got to the desktop and i set all the settings to suit my needs. all the apporpiate drivers were installed instantly and the automatic update found all the updates i needed. then i come to install some games but since its the X64Bit version some of the older games i have didnt work. but the newer games worked perfectly such as half life 2 and witrh the new DX10 engine they even looked better. i have 4200+ dule core and it runs vista effetlessly. i had some software issues as well such as zone alarm firewall and nero disk burner didnt work. if you want to play the older games or the older software buy the X32Bit version. Another great Product Micrsoft and keep up the good work ebuyer!!!!

This is a great OS it works well with my Athlon 64 3200+ CPU, Asus K8V-X SE Mobo, 1.5 GB or DDR 400 RAM, ATI Radeon 9600 GPU and my audigy 4 Sound card. I've got a 250GB samsung spinpoint hard drive and if you age going to get this i'd recommend that you get at least a 120GB hard drive mabye 80 at a push. Dont be afraid to buy a SATA hard drive with vista because i didn't need my SATA drivers and i need them when i'm installing my Windows XP. The compatability issues that people are talking about are non-exsistant. I'd definately recommend this one over the X32 version. I'M PLEASED TO BITS WITH IT

review by: Anonymous os: Windows Vista

i bought this for christmas and when i got it put in my computer and restared it i though i would of had to install it like windows XP but it did everything its self and it backed up my old windows till i wanted to delete it which i did straight away anyway but i didnt have to faf around with drivers like windows XP cause this Vista did it all its self and worked straight away. but i was having problems with riva tuner to up the fan on my 3870 graphics card it wouldnt start up when i turned the computer back on but i sorted it and it dosnt say this is not a 64bit software bla bla bla please restart to disable something. but yea it supports 32bit software and 64bit software so i dont know what people are saying gamers to get 32bit version this is so better and your ready for the future. 5 STARS!!

Hasta La Vista - NO WAY!!

Vista has grown on me now. It is a lot better now than when it was originally released, due to updates. Now we have SP1 nearly upon us which should hopefully improve on it even more!

I opted for the 64 bit version as this is lovely and fast. Although I do have a fast setup to begin with. I am running this on AMD 6000+ Dual Core - 4Gb DDR2 Ram - Gigabyte GA-MA69VM-S2 Motherboard - MSI 256Mb Silent PCI-Express Gfx Card. etc.etc. All this gives me an overall score of 5.4.

I eventually got so peed off with xp clogging up after just one week of standard operation after I installed it that Vista just had to be installed. And believe the hype about the speed too! I have been running Vista now for over 2 months and it is not slowed down one bit, in fact if anything, it's got quicker!!

Yes there is niggles with the UAC box keep appearing when you go to install something, but to be honest, it makes me feel that my system is more secure than xp. Which it is!

One interesting thing to note on this OEM version. I have just replaced my motherboard with a totally different make and model of motherboard. Now having read articles about Vista needing validating again after you do this, and, read that because it's oem you might need to purchase another copy, I can tell you here and now that after I replaced my motherboard all I needed to do was click on 'validate windows' again and that was it! Which is quite a relief. Mind you, I did not do a complete re-install of windows, I just ran my original installation. Of course, it detected all the new bits on the new motherboard and installed the correct drivers.

My advice...

Go for it!

OEM
review by: Anonymous os: Windows XP

Just a bit of information on OEM, it means that you can change components except the motherboard, if you change this you will have to buy a new version.

If you have a recent system then I suggest getting this, if you don't have a recent system then either upgrade and buy this, or get a full version without the restriction.

I have used the business edition and the layout is far better than XP, the use of memory drive to act as swap-files will increase performance dramatically.

I assume being OEM that you can upgrade to ultimate??
