Acard 1 - 7 DVD Duplicator - Easy to use but a bit pricey

Ok so you want to copy a DVD or CD lots of times over this will certainly do it.

The picture is slightly wrong. We received ours with the controlling unit in the middle of the tower - but no biggie.

As a techie I always like to take things apart as soon as I get them. Lifting the lid off, the first thing I noticed is that who ever had put it together skimped on screws. The DVD drives were only held in by screws on one side, minus marks for sloppy installation.

The 7 DVD Burners are Dual Layer 20x NEC IDE AD-7200A models whilst the Slave DVD Reader is an Asus 16x IDE DVD E616A3. When burning an image it is very quick, which is a major plus mark and the main reason I bought this unit in the first place. Seeing all the drives eject at once after only a few minutes is quite cool.

If you want to speed up the burning process you can fit your own hard drive and save DVD images to it, which you can use time and again for big runs. Inside there is a loose SATA cable for fitting a hard drive. Unfortunately there is no power cable or any place to fit the hard drive. With a bit of ingenuity I drilled 4 holes in the supporting bracket at the top of the unit and fitted a cable splitter for power. Minus mark for no cable splitter and no holes to fit the hard drive. I am guessing they want you to take out one of the DVD burners and mount the hard drive in one of the bays, I thought that was a waste.

Powering up the duplicator it was fairly easy to follow the one page instruction manual and format the 80GB SATA hard drive I had just fitted. It did not take too long to work out how to save DVD images to the hard drive, I just have to remember what is in each partition, as there is no easy way to give your images names, it is just Partition A, B, C etc. So half a minus mark for that.

Conclusion: Plus marks are for construction, speed, ease of use, Ebuyers usual efficient delivery time. Minus marks for price, manual, internal fittings for hard drive.

It is a bit pricey but it does what it says on the tin if you can justify the outlay.
