Bought this to go into a new build with a Athlon 64X2 5600. Only real worry i had about this card was that the fan may have been noisey with it being from a cheaper company, but it's silent. Another advantage of this card over the higher end 8000 series is that it dosen't require to be powered, it gets all it's power from the PCIe slot.
If you want to know it's proformance it runs Supreme Commander pretty well at 1280X1024.
All in all a good card for the money.

System:-
Asus A8N-E Mobo
AMD 4000+ 64 bit cpu
2GB Corsair Value PC3200 Dual channel
Win2000

I was a bit dubious of these mid range 8000 series cards because of some less than enthusiastic reviews - mistake, these 8600gt`s are a bargain. I was using a 7900GT and only got about 8000 in 3DMark05, the 7600gt did 9468 and with a small overclock did 9751, I`m happy with that, but would do a lot more, no extra power required (all through PCI express slot) and without extra cooling. I`m still testing it, only been installed 24 hrs but this is the best buy graphics card I`ve had in the last two or three years and I`ve had quite a few, mostly well over £100, with the google checkout offer, it`s not to be missed! It plays Stalker good as well!

After drooling over the 8800 cards and deciding I simply dont want to spend that kind of cash on nothing more than eye candy- I decided to go for another budget card, but I am well impressed with this card, it plays Company of Heroes 1680x1050 on a small map with max settings except for two of the four Ultra detail settings, which are set to High not Ultra.

It does struggle alittle on larger maps with more players but dropping some settings down to medium plays v well

Vista scores this as 5.9 for Aero graphics and 5.6 for gaming graphics

3Dmark 06 scores arround 4400 and is actually a movie rather than a series of stills like with my old ASUS 7300gs GFX card which scores 730

my current system is;
Athlon x2 4400
Corsair TwinX 6400 4.4.4.12
3x Maxtor Diamond RAID 5
ASUS M2N32-SLI Delux

I've given this card 5 Stars because I think it earns all of them for performance and value, where an 8800 costs £200 and this card costs less than a third but in my opinion performs much better that a third of an 8800. Also when the prices drop further this can be configured in SLI with another card which will provide even further bang for buck

So all in all an excellent card for the money and certainly worth spending a little more on this card if you are tempted with an 8500, 7300 or 7600 series card

I got my 8600GT from Xpertvision with a fairly similar cooler so I expect it's pretty much the same.

The core clock of 540MHz is adaquate for most modern games, except I wondered how far it could go if I wanted it to, turns out it could be boosted to 680MHz without any extra cooling at all and the memory could be ramped up from 700MHz (1.4GHz) to 750MHz (1.5GHZ).

Currently play CSS a lot on it, everything maxed out with AA at 4x (Resolution: 1280x1024) and everything runs smooth as, at least 40fps no matter what map or how hectic it gets, often hovers around the 80fps mark.

All the Orange Box games run flawlessly on it too.

So, basically, very good value card, but ignore the DX10 badge, only the 8800's are really capable of showing true DX10. Buy one if you're on a budget and need to play some fairly demanding games, managed to play CoD4 on high so I'd say thats pretty good.

Also, no extra power is required by the card so if your PSU is the recommended power output for your m/board you should be fine seeing as mine's only 300W.

PS. My system has an AMD Athlon 3500+, 2GB of 667MHz RAM if that gives a better impression of how good this card is.

Basically, cheap yet good card :)

SLI CONNECTOR REQUIRED OR NOT?
review by: Anonymous os: Windows Vista

I have recently bought this card and am planning on buying another to run in SLI since it has proven to be such a fast and superb value GPU.

Reading around on the internet I found that some models of cards do not in fact require you to use the SLI connector which enable bandwidth to be shared between GPUs of the same model.

So basically I'm wondering whether the INNOVISION 8600GT card require an SLI connector?

Thank you,

Steve

Needed a new card as my 7800GT decided to die on me. I didn't want to spend a fortune and had read some good things about the 8600GT cards, so decided to give this one a go.

My main gaming interest is EVE Online and this can handle 2 clients across 2 monitors smoothly but then again that's not a true test as a calculator could run EVE Online smoothly ;-)

Excellent card for little money. Not a bad combination.
