Extremely good build

Don't be fooled by the low price of this board compared to other gaming quality offerings, this is an exceptionally well put together bit of kit. Also, by featuring a full qwerty layout keyboard it's just as good for home office and typing, something that gaming boards tend to fail at.
At first I didn't attach the wrist pad that comes with it - try it out. It's even more comfortable, and it's made of a frictionless material so your hands won't be obstructed whilst you play.
The Keyboard has a blue led fitted beneath the keys so that in the dark you can still see all of the keys perfectly, the light shines up through the letters of the keys faintly.
The jog dials and extra function keys are all really in places that no gamer will make use of, but as general media functions they're about right and don't feel flimsy.
The only thing I could see as a major downside for some people is the size of this keyboard, it's huge, both in terms of width and breadth. Oh, and the driver supplied is about 60 megs - that can't be good for windows, but it does work without it.
Have fun, gg.

Amazing...

straight out of the packaging it bedazzles you with its sleek look and all the buttons etc, you really feel like microsoft are paying you to have this keyboard and you feel you havent paid enough to have it.. this keyboard comes with the razer hyperspnose technology, you really can feel it in the keys and you just want to find an excuse to type something. im a gamer and play css alot so i was after a cool looking keyboard to complete my desktop and show off to my mates that came round, after reading countless reviews complimenting this k.b. i decided to go with it, probably the best money ive ever spent. I disagree about the bleed through and its hard to read the keys it looks absolutley amazing.

the best features about this keyboard:

the way the keys feel, the arm rest has a leathery texture and is really really comfy, the keys have a matted texture for max grip.

note: the Two gold plated usb ports either side of the keyboard are usb 1.1 so if you have any usb 2.0 devices beware they wont work properly. but still good if you have a memory dongle etc..

the software supplied is fully customisable seeing as its razer based and can assign tons of macros for games etc [ i use to auto buy stuff :D]

tbh ive had a g15 and this takes the money, i think if you want a sleek look but a gaming experience at the same time i would definatly recommend this keyboard.

Great board

Bought this as part of a bundle with the Habu mouse, and it's the best money i've spent on my computer! I was getting frustrated with trying to play on a normal keyboard at night so decided to go for a backlit one and new precision mouse, and it just so happened that this bundle came out the day i was looking for it! The board itself looks fantastic, especially in the dark. The letters glow perfectly so i can now see what i'm supposed to be pressing instead of guessing all the time.

The wrist rest that comes with it is great, as long as you are using it on a desk. I use mine on my lap so unfortunately it broke off fairly quickly, but is still completely usable without it.

The only complaints i have about it is the media key at the left-hand side. It is positioned right next to the shift key, so often during the game when i try to press shift for a quick speed boost i accidentally hit the media button which throws you out of the game and launches iTunes. The other quible i have is the USB ports on the board, they aren't powerful enough to run the habu mouse off. They can run memory sticks etc ok, but anything that needs a bit more power is useless.

Other than that this is a fantastic board & would highly recommend it to everyone.

backlighting
review by: Anonymous os: Windows XP

Why give the product two stars if you dont understand the back lighting? The back lighting is not lighting bleed. The light is meant to come through and in-between the keys. This gives the keyboard its distinctive blue glow.

O.K the logitech backlighting only comes through the keys but you cannot fault the Microsoft board when the backlighting system is completely different.

Not as impressive as the actual Spider

Compare to an ordinary keyboard, there is more spacing between characters. So, you may need some time to get used to it.

I think light bleed between the keys is actually a nice feature. But should be more brighter. Also I find the keys are a bit hard to press.

Not as impressive as the actual Spider. But I still recommend it providing that there are not many alternatives.

Pretty good but...

Ok brilliant keyboard. Loving the backlight keys that mean as the lights go down outside you dont have to get up off your fat arris and turn the lights on.

What I am not lovin is the genius who thought 'I know lets put a DVD Eject button next to the keypad enter button so they keep pressing it by accident'

w498797er.

Buy it. The name suggests its only for recluses. You know you are. You know you want it.

Very good KB...

I bolught this KB a few days ago along with a Zalman 9500 CPU cooler..

Ok the review of the keyboard the blue lights are great.. it took a short time getting used to the spacing of the keys as their seems to be slighly more room between the keys than my Dell keyboard.. anyway after getting used to it and then using the kb in the dark.. it's amazing.. the blue light really helps to see the keys.. I've a black Samsung monitor and Creative speakers which both have the same shade of blue so good colour co-ordination :)..

The keys have a nice smooth typing action.. so they could be ued in an office ifneed be although this is aimed at gamers.. it's a very good KB a little pricey I feel for what u get but it's solidly built..

Oh one final note.. it's connected via USB only theirs no PS2 connections...

light bleed
review by: Anonymous rating:

I returned this keyboard in favour of the logitech G15 (orange).

I found the microsoft keyboard had light bleed between all of the keys - this made the keys themselves glow around the edges which also made reading the actual letters hard.

In comparison, the G15 has no bleed at all - the only light you see on the keyboard is from the actual letters.

If you are having trouble choosing between the 2 keyboards and your main priority is the lighting quality of the keys, I would suggest the G15.
