does what it says on the tin.
os:
Windows 2000nero7 basic for free. plugs in and plays. its not a very quite drive but average. cant hear much over all my fans eitherway. its a solid feeling drive and i cant see any bad points.
liteOn 20x SATA DVD-Writer
os:
Windows VistaBurns discs quickly and seem to run fairly quitely. SATA interface much better than IDE due to the smaller cables and a faster data transfer rate. Overally a good drive.
Nice
os:
Windows VistaNo problems setting up.
runs fine with Vista 64.
The nero package runs fine in vista 64 too. it said vista compatable on the nero disk.
no problems with noise while burning etc.
DMA needs to be on
Anonymous possibly needs to tell Windows to use DMA (Direct Memory Access) with his disk controller. I had a similar problem with one of my DVD drives, switching on DMA cured it straight away. This was a PATA drive though and SATA may have a different configuration.
your fault
if you don't set the drive correct (jumper settings at back)and have a strange setup it can stop from booting.
conflictions with master and slave in bios

Liteon 20x DVD/CD Writer & Rewriter
os:
Windows XPSince i bought my liteon as a external unit i have not had any problems with it at all.
As long as you have a CPU:Pentium 4 1.3GHz or Higher, OS:Windows 2000 SP4/XP/Vista, Memory:128MB RAM or Higher (256MB RAM Recommended), you should not have any problems, if you have'nt got any of these then i'd serouisley upgrade my system.
Buzz saw action.
os:
Windows VistaHaving recently built a quad core pc from scratch i can say that this DVD/RW is the loudest thing in it, it sounds like a circular wood saw when up to full speed.
This i could live with, but now it doesnt burn DVD's properly anymore, it would take FAR longer than it should and i would then end up with a corrupted file.
This frustated me so much i had a slight accident and its now in two bits. :(
Avoid.
Richard
Basicly avoid.
Nightmare
os:
Windows XPBrought this drive and was happy with the different fronts and the package looked good. That is where my review changes as whatever dvd-r I tried to burn, it would take 20 minutes to burn, tried taiyo yuden, verbatim, all good quality disc's and no matter what speed I put the burn on 4x, 6x, 8x, 12x, 16x, 20x it would take 20 minutes, I did a drive speed test in Nero tools and found out it was burning at 2.89 speed. E-mailed liteon support and got nothing, updated firmware, still the same. Total nightmare, I have always brought liteon dvd burners, but wont be buying another one again and this one will be going back to e-buyer.
LOUD DVD-RW!!
os:
Windows XPI bought this from ebuyer due to buying other components at the same time. Wasn't right impressed at the selection on offer. Needed a silver bezel to match case and wanted Lightscribe & SATA. This was the only drive available. Unfortunately it's the loudest DVD-drive I've ever owned. It sounds like a hoover and it is really irritating. Don't get this drive!! Get a Samsung, Sony NEC or a Pioneer. Have owned/own these drives and they were far superior. Only good thing to say about it is the choice of bezels, which i would like to see every manufacturer do. Would allow you to keep drives colour-matched if changing to a different coloured case.
