Excellent case, but if only.....

As others have mentioned, great case.

The fixed motherboard tray is a slight let down but not really an issue (some things are just made slightly more fiddly!)

The front of the case is plastic, with vents cut outs towards the bottom and sides, these work really well allowing just the single 120mm fan at the back to move enough air to keep my system (quad core) cool.

Couple of issues I have found are as follows:
1) The two USB's are a nice touch however perhaps fire-wire port would of been a better choice than the e-sata port as the other connector.

2) Both the HD and Power LED's are blue, I'd have preferred a different colour for the power (something I of course could change myself!)

3) The rear 120mm fan has a standard PSU 4 pin connector and a 3 speed fan setting switch, this is a let down as i'd much prefer a 3 pin connector to attach to my motherboard in order to control my fan speed. This has meant I've had to go and purchase a different fan and install that.

4) This is possible the biggest fault, the power supply doesn't have a 3 pin fan connector, so you cannot link to your motherboard to monitor the fan speed, sure its not a major fault and doesn't stop its excellent power and totally silent operation, but it does let my system monitoring tools down by not being able to provide its status (strangely the manual with the case does say it has a connector!)

Apart from the above, this case is excellent! - The hard drive slots were easy to use, the rubber disk mounts are excellent to keep Hard drive noise down. The 5" bays and 3.5" bays were equally easy to use/install.

Overall a brilliant case and excellent value considering you get such a great power supply included.

Finger prints are an issue on the paintwork, but a quick polish and they're are gone.

All in all - if that's the only faults I can find with the case, then obviously there's no reason why your not buying one already!

What a cracking case... it's a work of art !

There's plenty of room inside, access to the internals is easy and the drive mounts are genius.

All the HDD's mount on easily removable brackets isolated with silicone grommets to cut down the vibrations... it really works !

The PSU is whisper quiet and has bucket loads of connections and it comes with all the screws etc. your ever likely to need.

throw in ESATA, two usb ports & HD audio connections on the front panel & well you're on to a winner.... buy one now !

Ingenious and Stylish

I can only reiterate the sentiment of the reviews here...the Sonata III really is a pleasure to work with and a beauty to behold!

The completely removable door and side-mounted HDD cages make installation a breeze. Fitting the rails and sliding them in is just a revelation and an installers dream. The HDD's are cushioned on substantial silicon grommets that insulate them from the case and the securing screws and make a world of difference to cut drive noise.

The 120mm rear fan is near silent in LOW mode and the case does a good job over my old case (fitted with Asaka insulation foam) to insulate my CPU and GPU fan noise.

The most impressive part of this unit is the Earthwatts PSU that has made my UPS drop from 70% load (my old PC with Enermax 465) to just 20%! ^^ The supply has dual 12v rails and plenty of SATA and PCI-E connections and is almost silent in operation.

The front panel E-SATA connector, comprehensive PSU connections and plenty of drive bays make this a good future-proof case with plenty of room inside for upgrading.

A quick word about the black 'piano' finish - it is a great paint job, but I did not find it such a fingerprint nightmare as some have said. The finish is more 'anodised steel' than it is 'lacquered' and after spending an hour moving it backward and forward installing I found very few fingerprints and then it was just a case of a quick flick with the duster and they were gone!

If I was going to be critical, I would say it is a shame the PSU was not modular (just plug in connectors you need) and the mobo was not mounted on a removable tray - - - but I am not going to!!! The price of this case is an absolute bargain when you consider the excellent build quality and the super-efficient Earthwatts power supply included.

A brilliant purchase and I would highly recommend this to anyone building their PC or rehousing their old setup. Five Stars!

Excellent air flow ... and it

Firstly, do not think - just go and buy this case.
The power supply is perfect. It's quiet at 500 watts, and this is an accurate measurement.
It can easily power any rig because it's efficient.

Ok, when you open it, think carefully about how you are going to wire everything up. Do a great job wiring, and you will not regret it ...
Mine took almost 2 hours to assemble, but the air flows perfectly. Buy an extra 120mm fan, for the front - because it will cool your hard drives, and lower your temperatures. Buy a quiet fan.
Put simply, get it right - and you quietly drag air from the front of the case, through and over your hard drives, into the CPU area, and out the back. Just superb airflow ...

It's quiet. Loudest thing in my case, is now my graphics card fan, which I have just replaced with a passive heat spreader. Buy this case.

Well packaged and arrived in pristine condition. The case is very well built with no sharp edges left and sturdy construction. It's clear a lot of thought has gone into the design. Installing 3.5" and 5.25" drives is effortless and almost a joy to do, it's easy to keep the cables tidy and the connector for the front panel are all well labelled.

The case comes with a pre installed power supply and rear case fan as per the product description, both of which are good quality. All in all a well thought out and classy looking case, highly recommended.
