Highly Recommend, fitted easily turned on PC and automatically found by OS and off I went.

Have burned a number of CD-R and DVD-R (Datawrite 18x) no problem and very fast. Very quiet drive compared to my previous LG one.

For the cost and the brand good value even better when you open the box and find Nero 7 with it.

Have not tried lightscribe. PS Excellent service by ebuyer keep it up.

Compatibility

3 Things, is it compatible with Vista as my current drive isnt.

2. Does the firmware come with it.

3. Is the image burning good?

this drive does the lot and so far it has done it well for me. high speed, support all the formats and the lighscribe function makes it a bit more fun when compiling your own CDS or DVDs. The price on ebuyer is excellent too! Will it be available with SATA connection?

My wife bought me this as an early Christmas present and I must say it does what it says on the box.

It burns to all formats of disc, and the lightscribe works great, the length of time it takes is what it says in the intsructions.

A really excellent all round DVD writer

Nero 7 works in Vista 64bit , but you have to get the updated set up for it(which is free), a couple of apps dont work but still good .

New to E-buyer & computing in general, so you’ll forgive me if this doesn’t blind you with science & perpetual abbreviations.

Bought this unit to replace a x16 DVD ROM as I quite fancied the lightscribe function. Delivery was free & not looking a gift horse in the mouth or anything, it was a little slow in arriving compared with Amazon & alike.

Fitted it with ease (screws supplied) & XP picked it up no bother.
Sounds quiet when in use …. So far so good.

Used it to Lightscribe label a DVD with provided Nero 7 Essentials, Its fair to say that the results were somewhat lacklustre.
(Bit fuzzy & non-defined) & I actually grew a beard in the time it took to complete this task … some 18 mins for one disk.

When installing Nero, the installation took over my computer with a ‘full on’ style ‘Media Centre’ Dragging all of my photo’s / Mp3 & alike into a default Nero player. (I’m sure with a modicum of knowledge, this could be avoided. I didn’t particularly like the Nero defaults).

So …. “This week ….I’ll mostly be using printable DVD’s” as the results are much more aesthetically pleasing. If it’s a new DVD RW you’re after, then this is coolio but there are similarly spec’ed ones going for slightly less £’s. I’d be looking there!

possible compatibility issues?

Having had two of these drives, one DOA and the second not functioning correctly I can only say that HP have a fantastic reputation regarding thier products and perhaps I was just unlucky in terms of neither unit working. The drive with all its capabilities looks fantastic value. Thanks to Ebuyer being such a reputable seller I would not put anyone off trying this drive, they allowed me to exchange the 2nd faulty unit for the LG equivalent which worked immediately on fitting. Many thanks Ebuyer

HP dvd 1040i dvd wrter

This DVD writer is terrible! HP does not have any firmware for this item. This has been my second burner and I will be sending it back. I agree that the OS picks it up fine. It is a great CD burner, but i did not purchase this device for burning CDs. If any of you that have success with this you are the lucky ones. I am glad that you are having success with this writer. No Problem w/ebuyer just with product.

Not Bad But ....

Fitted this to a system I built for a friend, but found that the copy of Nero shipped with this drive is not compatible with Vista 64bit. And you dont even get a blank disc with this.
Drive seemed to work OK but let down by the supplied software.
